EFCC Detains Femi Fani-Kayode...Asks Him To Refund N840m loot

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, is at it again! Yesterday May 9, 2016, the EFCC detained a former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, for allegedly receiving N840m from the party’s campaign funds.

The former minister, who arrived at the EFCC headquarters at about 9.45am, is currently being held at the anti-graft office for further investigations.

Fani-Kayode was accused of receiving the said amount from the Director of Finance of the campaign organisation, Senator Nenadi Usman, during the build-up to the 2015 election, which the Peoples Democratic Party lost to the All Progressives Congress.

The money was said to have emanated from the account of the National Security Adviser, which is domiciled in the Central Bank of Nigeria.

Meanwhile, Fani-Kayode had maintained that the PDP leadership gave him the impression that the money was sourced from private individuals.

He said, “I served as the director of publicity of the Jonathan campaign organisation and I was told to set up an account for the directorate, which I did. I never received money from the CBN, but like all the other directors, we received money from the director of finance.

“I was assured that the funds were not public funds but were sourced from private individuals. I never knowingly spent government money all through. The money was spent specifically on the campaigns. The accounts were audited and we were commended by the President.”

Sources at the EFCC told Punch that the sole aim of the investigation was to recover the funds.

A reliable source at the EFCC said, “Nenadi Usman cooperated with us and returned funds. Fani-Kayode must also do the same. We need our money back.”

EFCC Arrests Former Akwa Ibom Governor Over Diezani’s $115million Loot

Former military administrator of Akwa Ibom State and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Idongesit Nkanga has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

Mr. Nkanga, a retired air commodore, is accused of receiving N450,000,000(Four Hundred and Fifty Million Naira only) from the sleazy $115million deposited by former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, with Fidelity Bank Plc.

Premium Times reports that the former governor was picked in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital on Monday.

It was reported that he collected the money in two tranches, from a certain Saint-Anthony Ejiowu, a staff of Fidelity Bank in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital.

The first tranche of the money – N350,000,000 (Three Hundred and Fifty Thousand Million Naira only) was paid to the politician on March 27, 2015, the source said.

Mr. Nkanga allegedly received the second tranche of N100,000,000 (One Hundred Million Naira only) on March 31, 2015.

“He is in the custody of the EFCC and would be charged to court soon,” an EFCC official said.

Son of Nigeria's former Chief Justice who joined ISIS killed In Syrian Airstrike

Ibrahim Uwais, a son of former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Mohammed Uwais, died today near Aleppo, Syria as the United States targeted members of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) in fierce airstrikes.

According to a source, the deceased had secretly traveled to Syria in February 2015 to join ISIS, and was among the many Islamist terrorists who died as the US military aircraft bombarded the terrorists camps near the Syrian city of Aleppo.

“Ibrahim died today on the battlefield in Aleppo,” He added that one of the two wives of the deceased currently trapped in Syria might notify the family of his death.

SaharaReporters learned that Ibrahim Uwais left Nigeria in 2015, telling close family members he was headed to Turkey to explore business opportunities. He took along his two wives and five kids. However, he slipped from Turkey into Syria with his entire family and joined the burgeoning army of volunteer fighters who travel from different parts of the world to enlist with ISIS, a group whose agenda is to carve out an Islamist caliphate. Justice Uwais was Nigeria’s Chief Justice between 1995 and 2006.

Buhari to visit London on Tuesday next week

President Buhari will embark on another visit, this time to London on Tuesday May 10, 2016 to participate in the international Anti-Corruption Summit which will be held on Thursday, May 12, 2016. According to a statement by presidential media aide, Femi Adesina, President Buhari will play a prominent part in the summit which will be hosted by Prime Minister David Cameron of Great Britain with many other Heads of State and Government in attendance.

Buhari will deliver a keynote address titled: "Why We Must Tackle Corruption Together" at a pre-summit conference of development partners, the Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council, Transparency International and other civil society groups on Wednesday, May 11, 2016.

The statement adds that Buhari is one of the world leaders scheduled to speak at the opening session of the Anti-Corruption Summit with others, including Prime Minister Cameron and the President of the World Bank, Dr. Jim Yong Kim.

He will join other participating heads of State and Government at special plenary sessions on Exposing Corruption, Tackling Corruption and Driving out Corruption. In his address to the summit and interactions with other participating leaders, President Buhari will urge the international community to move faster on the dismantling of safe havens for the proceeds of corruption and the return of stolen funds and assets to their countries of origin. He will also reaffirm his administration’s unwavering commitment to the fight against corruption and the Federal Government’s readiness to partner with international agencies and other countries to identify, apprehend and punish corrupt public officials.

President Buhari's delegation to the Summit will include the Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Alhaji Abubakar Malami and the acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Ibrahim Magu.

Before returning to Abuja on Friday, May 13, 2016, the President is expected to have a separate meeting with Prime Minister Cameron to discuss ongoing Nigeria-Britain collaboration in the war against corruption and terrorism, as well as other issues, including trade and economic relations between both countries.

Hehehey! For up to 30 minutes, Fulani herdsmen and their cattle obstructed the convoy of Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State at Amakohia Orlu Road in Owerri the state capital this afternoon.

The Governor was on his way to inspect a project with some journalists when his convoy ran into the herdsmen and their cattle.
