Yobe Gov Seeks FG’s Support In Re-positioning Healthcare System

Yobe Gov Seeks FG’s Support In Re-positioning Healthcare System

yobe-gaidam

Governor Ibrahim Gaidam made the appeal on Monday in Damaturu, the capital of Yobe State, in a meeting with the Minister of Health, Professor Isaac Adewole, who was in the state to access the situation of the healthcare facilities ravaged by the Boko Haram insurgency.

The Governor said that the insurgency had grounded most healthcare facilities in the state thereby affecting the entire healthcare system.
He said that despite the tremendous efforts made in the health sector by the State Government, a lot needed to be done to improve the health needs of the people.
The Governor, represented by his Deputy, Abubakar Aliyu, said that the acts of terror of the Boko Haram sect had led to destruction of several health facilities in Gujba and Gulani Local Government Areas of the state while the ones in Damaturu and other major towns of the state, had been over stretched by the accumulated number of the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).

According to Governor Gaidam, the State Government had upgraded and restructured healthcare facilities at the state specialist’s hospital as well as the construction of 200 bed capacity in the state capital with the hope of meeting the healthcare needs of the people.

The Minister of Health, however, said that his visit to the state was timely as he was in Yobe for assessment purpose with a view to upgrading the needed facilities.
The Minister said that President Muhammadu Buhari was determined to reposition healthcare facilities across the country with emphasis on Adamawa, Borno and Yobe States, which were bedeviled by the Boko Haram insurgency.

Attention on such upgrade, he said, would focus on the primary and secondary healthcare systems as such would tell positively on the lives of the common man.

The Minister said that President Buhari’s administration would work assiduously towards improving the health situation, pointing out that the government would provide mobile ambulances, urgent health care needs, as well as potable water.

On the Lassa fever epidemic, Professor Adewole described it as an ‘occasional wind’ which the present administration would work hard to fizzle out of the country permanently.
The Minister also visited some IDP camps in Damaturu where he assured them of the Federal Government’s support in the improvement of their well being.

The Minister would proceed to Adamawa and Borno States for similar assessment tour of the insurgency prone states of the North-East geopolitical zones.

Buhari’s anti-corruption war getting out of hand – Olu Falae

Buhari’s anti-corruption war getting out of hand – Olu Falae

The National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party, Chief Olu Falae, has said the anti-corruption campaign by the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government is “beginning to look selective”.
Falae, a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, was recently named as one of the beneficiaries of the $2.1bn meant for arms procurement, which was allegedly diverted by former National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki.

He has, however, repeatedly denied having any contact with Dasuki since the 80s, insisting that he had no case to answer.

Asked to assess the ongoing anti-corruption campaign, he told our correspondent, “It is getting out of hand. They know that there is no charge they can bring against me, that is why smear campaign is used as a substitute so that over time people will say I am a bad man.

“I read some articles in the paper that talked about ‘the increasingly controversial anti-graft war’. It is truly becoming controversial because it is no longer reasonable; it is beginning to look selective. How could you link me with Dasuki? The person I have not seen for more than 20 years. The man I had no dealing with whatsoever.”

He explained that while it was important for the country to fight corruption, the current administration ought to consider a different approach to the campaign, adding that the current approach was similar to what happened in 1985 when Buhari was the Head of State.

He said, “There are two models to clean up a society: the sampling model and the total revolution, like the French Revolution. The one that might be suitable for our situation is for the government to take cases that are unambiguous and take such people as an example; take the money from them and send them to jail as examples to the system. Then, put that behind you and go ahead with the development of the society.

“But if you take all the time looking for every criminal to send to jail, that will be an endless journey. At the beginning, the people will hail you because they like to see big men fall, but as more and more people are destroyed, then, more and more members of the general population will be affected.
For some, their brothers or fathers or friends have lost their jobs and at the end of the day, the tide will turn and people will turn against that government.”

To avoid such a situation, he said the best thing to do was to focus on some people who had clear cases to answer and leave security operatives to take care of the rest.
“On this occasion, my advice will be those people who are the criminals in this system, whose crimes are unambiguous and documented, take them, apply the law, confiscate the loot they have taken, try them, and let them go to prison,” he said.

“Do that for a couple of months and leave the rest for the police to do their jobs in a normal way. This omnibus anti-graft campaign phase would have been over but the police would continue to monitor the system and catch thieves and criminals. Then the government would focus on the development of the society.”

Falae, who admitted that his party collected N100m from the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party’s Board of Trustees, Chief Tony Anenih, of the Peoples Democratic Party, insisted that neither the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission nor any individual has asked him to refund the money.
He added that it was not the SDP’s place to investigate where the PDP got money from, saying, “It is not our duty — either legal or moral duty — to begin to find out where PDP was finding money to pursue its campaign.

“We took no money from Dasuki; the money given was for the party, not for me. It was delivered to the party and the party has acknowledged receipt in full in a press conference.”

Ex-Militants Issue Buhari 31-Day Ultimatum to Release Nnamdi Kanu

Pro-Biafra among the Niger Delta ex-militants have given President Mohammadu Buhari a 31-day ultimatum to free the leader of the group and Director of Radio Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, or face the consequences.

They also warned security agencies against tampering with the life of the IPOB leader, who is detained at Kuje Prison. Spokesperson of the concerned ex-militants, simply identified as General Ben, warned that at the expiration of the ultimatum, they would resume massive abduction of expatriates as a first step.

The spokesperson declared that Federal Government should not underrate the activities of the militants in the Niger Delta, no matter the number of soldiers deployed against them.

He fumed: “The ex-militant leaders in Ebeocha IPOB are warning the Federal Government and are giving them 31 days to release Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of IPOB and Director of Radio Biafra.

“We are giving Federal Government deadline; if they fail to release him, the country would be vandalised. He is fighting a just cause. Nothing should happen to him and Federal Government should not forget what we can do,” he threatened.
John-Okafor-receive-award-from-Governor-Sullivan-Chime-Pulse entertainment 0 ‘All those who diverted AGN funds from Jonathan will die,’ says Mr Ibu By DOCKTHOR @iam_dockthor · On January 24, 2016 John-Okafor-receive-award-from-Governor-Sullivan-Chime-Pulse An embittered Nollywood star, Mr Ibu, has cursed those he perceived to have diverted funds meant for the Actors Guild of Nigeria, AGN from the Federal Government. In a recent interview with Vanguard Newspaper, Mr Ibu said that he had once sent a proposal to build a film village to the Federal Government and is yet to get response, hence, he believes some of his colleagues have gotten money and diverted the funds. Born John Okafor, the comic actor disclosed that while the former President, Goodluck Jonathan was in office, the Actors Guild benefited immensely from his dispensation, yet some individuals had diverted the money allocated to the industry to their personal pocket. In his words, “When ex-President Goodluck Jonathan was in office, every minute they were there asking for all manner of favour.” Continuing, he said, ‘And the ex-President loved us so much that he gave them huge money. All those who diverted monies meant for AGN or Movie Makers will die because they do not know the souls they have killed. ‘For 2016, if all these things are taken care of, AGN will do better. I am promising one thing, am not contesting anything on the AGN but, I have a lot of surprises,’ he promised.

A’Ibom has highest number of fraudulent fuel stations – DPR

Akwa Ibom State has been fingered as one with the highest number of fuel stations with cases of pump dispensing inefficiency, hoarding, diversion and arbitrary increase in prices of petroleum products in Nigeria.

Consequently, the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR), has handed down the last warning that sanction awaits any member of Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), who henceforth refuses to comply with the new pump price of N86.50 per litre.

DPR’s Controller Operations in charge of Akwa Ibom and Cross River states, Mr Bassey Nkanga, who gave the warning at DPR/IPMAN meeting in Eket, Akwa Ibom on Friday, however pleaded with petroleum products marketers to comply with government directives as the era of impunity was over.

“I am pleading with all of us here, things have changed, the era of impunity is gone and government is serious about selling petroleum products at approved pump price. I want to plead with us, you have made so much money, now is time for everybody to comply with Federal Government directives,’’ he stressed.

Nkanga lamented that only 50 per cent of filling stations in the state are operating with DPR’s valid license, adding that marketers in Akwa Ibom were among the few in the country dispensing fuel far above regulated prices.

“Government will not tolerate any longer anybody selling petroleum products above pump price irrespective of whatever story anybody has. The stand of government is that if you know you cannot make profit for selling at N86.50 per litre, please don’t sell,’’ he explained.

He warned marketers to desist from sharp practices to enable the government achieve its objectives.
He urged those who find it difficult to comply to have a change of behaviour as government would not tolerate lawlessness in the system.

The state chairman of IPMAN, Mr Nseobong Umanah, in his reaction, blamed the situation on the activities of the private depot owners in Calabar; and explained that it was difficult to buy the products above N77.66 from the depot and dispense it at regulated prices at the retail outlets.

He, however, promised to co-operate with the federal government in providing the needed services to the people.
