Lawyer Loses His Job For Text Messaging At Work

Lawyer Loses His Job For Text Messaging At Work

He was texting too much at work. Kunle Kalejaiye has been stripped of his lawyer’s rank for quite an unusual reason.

Lawyer Kunle Kalejaiye was stripped of his Senior Advocate of Nigeria rank by Nigeria’s Legal Practitioners Privileges Committee.
The imposition of this harsh disciplinary measure against Mr. Kunle Kalejaiye was because he was text messaging too much at work.

However, it wasn’t the text messaging itself but rather the identity of the recipient of those messages that caused serious consequences.

Mr. Kaleijaye had to face an inquiry into his unethical conduct when he was caught exchanging text messages with an election tribunal judge, Thomas Naron. Text messages between them were made public. The scandal took place in 2008 during the election litigation between former Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola of Osun state and the state’s current governor, Rauf Aregbesola.

However, text messaging sometimes has even more serious consequences. One year ago a woman killed herself after accidentally messaging husband instead of her lover.
