Road Accident In Calabar Claims 11 Lives (See pic)
The bus, which belongs to a popular auto company, Romchi, had on board
13 passengers, traveling to Ogoja in the northern part of the state from
Calabar, when it ran into the truck. It was attempting to overtake
another vehicle on a bend in the road at Biase.
An eyewitness said that all the passengers in the bus were crushed, some beyond recognition.
He said only the driver and another young man seated in front with the driver came out alive.
The eyewitness said: “Many children, along with their parents, died in the accident and we had to use axes to cut off some part of the bus before we could bring them out.”
He said none of the deceased persons had been identified, adding that it was the survivor that said the vehicle was on its way to Ogoja after taking passengers at its park along Eta Agbo Road, near the University of Calabar.
Public Relations Officer of the Federal Road Safety Commission, Mr. Samuel Ndumelo, could not be reached for comments.
Police Public Relations Officer for the Cross River State command, Mr. Hogan Bassey, said he was yet to receive information on the accident.
