‘War Against Tinubu Will Destroy APC’ - Raji Lateef
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Mr. Lateef Raji, has
warned that the recent attacks on the party’s National Leader, Asiwaju
Bola Tinubu, will lead to the destruction of the ruling party.
Raji, who is the immediate past Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to former Governor Babatunde Fashola, said this in a statement on Tuesday.
Raji said Tinubu was the pillar of the APC and if he was pushed out of the party, the APC may not live to see another election.
Reacting to the outcome of the elections that produced the current leadership of the National Assembly, Raji stated that the action and the attendant comments from some quarters suggest that some elements within the APC are out to rubbish certain leaders in the party, particularly, Tinubu whom he said contributed a lot to the victory of the APC in the last poll.
He said, “The history behind the merger that later culminated in the APC is well known and well documented. The role played by Tinubu is also known to all. In whatever terms, his contributions cannot be quantified. So, efforts by anyone to rubbish his contributions will spell doom for the fortune of the party if not now but later.”
Appraising the outcome of the last election into the leadership of the National Assembly, Raji stated that the decision of both Senator Bukola Saraki and Mr. Yakubu Dogara to flout party directive and preference would not augur well for the party’s discipline and cohesion.
He said, “It is known to all that the shadow elections that were conducted indicated that certain individuals emerged as preferred candidates of the party but these two members decided to go against the will of the party by openly defying the will of the party to contest the offices.”
On the likely implication of their actions, Raji added, “The decision of the two to team up with opposition political parties will not in any way augur well for smooth running of the Muhammadu Buhari administration as debates, policies and appointments needed for good governance would be stalled thus making the process of delivering on campaign promises tedious.”
