Nigerians in South Africa hail Dream Team VI
Nigerians resident in South Africa on Sunday commended the
U-23 National Team for winning the U-23 African Cup of Nations in
Senegal.
The Dream Team VI defeated Algeria 2-1 to win the championship.
Mr Emeka Ezinteje, the Public Relations Officer of Nigeria Union in
South Africa, said the team demonstrated character and discipline to win
the championship.
He told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) at Kimberley, Northern Cape
Province of South Africa, that Coach Samson Siasia did a marvellous job
in raising the team.
“I
am aware the team did not blend at the commencement of the
championship, but they showed character and tactical discipline to win
the event,” he said.
Mr Kennedy Osagie, the Chairman of Nigeria Union, Northern Cape Province, said Nigerians in the province were proud of the team.
“Nigerians were overwhelmed, especially when the goalkeeper saved a penalty at a crucial moment in the match.
“The team made us proud and we urge them to go ahead and win the Olympic medal in Brazil next year,” he said.
A lawyer, Mr Tony Okorie, commended Siasia for fielding Victor Osimhen, a member of the National U-17 team, in the championship.
“Osimhen showed class just as he did in the FIFA U-17 championship in
Chile and it shows that Nigeria is blessed with abundant talents,” he
said.
Okorie urged the Nigeria Football Federation to keep the U-23 and
U-17 teams together to form a formidable Super Eagles team for future
tournaments.
