Wife of
the Imo State governor and chairperson of the Southern Governors' Wives
Forum – Mrs. Nkechi Rochas Okorocha has constructed ultra-modern skills
Acquisition centres in each of the three senatorial zones of Owerri,
Orlu and Okigwe.
Her aim is to empower people who will become independent, boost economic activity in the state and promote active and positive engagement.
She disclosed this at the commissioning and matriculation ceremony of one of the centre in Orlu which comprises six skills acquisition department, a cottage industry and a 300 seater capacity hall.
“I established this centre for the purpose of skills acquisition and economic empowerment and my target is that in no distant time, the students would become self reliant, independent and great entrepreneurs of repute who I believe would eventually become captains of industries and employers of labour”.
She said that the Skill Acquisition Centres had been designed to train students in different skills such as computer training, fashion and designing, hair dressing and beauty, catering, photography and cosmetology.
With firm assurance to build more centres and to expand the already existing ones in order to empower a great number of people, she said that is a great brand new excellence which boasts of highly qualified instructors who are skilled, committed and above all passionate about their work.
The administrator of the centre, Mr. Christian Onuoha at the ceremony which witnessed the matriculation of over 120 students described the centre as a place of wonder where students who had no previous skills are within a short period of time turned into professionals in computer training fashion and designing, hair dressing among others.
This is indeed lovely!
