NOW THAT THE YULETIDE IS OVER...

NOW THAT THE YULETIDE IS OVER...

Festive period is always marked  with a lot of jubilation here and there, where people hangout with friends, visit recreational centres and even relax at homes with family members.
In fact, it is a time to go off from things related to office and school.

25th and 26th December are earmarked as Christmas and Boxing days respectively while January 1 is the very first day of the year, and is regarded as New Year day.

During these periods, people engage in religious activities, taking stock of their lives and prepare for the following year regarding their spiritual, physical financial, material and emotional lives.

Yuletide which starts basically in September, involves a lot of extravagance which makes people fall to square one. People go as far as outwitting their fellow human beings in a bid to recuperating from that which was spent.

I had opportunity to travel and what i saw on the highways were unimaginable. Deaths and casualties here and there. Hospitals were filled with survivors of accidents up to the point that there were no spaces at the mortuaries.

Road users drive at very high speed of which in most cases, they lose their lives and the passengers in their convoy.

Just yesterday, January 6, 2015 at about 4:30pm along Jakande Estate bus-stop, Oke-Afa, Isolo, a truck driver on a high speed lost control of the steering and with a high momentum, collided with a commercial vehicle en route to Cele Express, Okota, Lagos.

Accident along Jakande Estate Isolo road, Lagos.

Blood spills everywhere and casualties of which some of them were rushed to Isolo General hospital. Children were not left out.

Bike riders popularly known as Okada, ride recklessly and also cause accidents on our highways. LASTMA officials who manage Lagos roads, alongside FRSC officials, should be up to task and ensure road-worthiness of vehicles before being allowed to ply our roads.

Whenever you drive, have it at the back of your mind that anything can happen.
Hence, drive safely!
