Twelve wives of Boko Haram militants surrender in Borno

I heard in some quarters that Buhari is really motivating our soldiers. Good one! Twelve wives of Boko Haram militants have surrendered to members of Civilian JTF in Borno. The women surrendered after their husbands abandoned them in the bush. The women when interrogated said their husbands left them in the forest due to lack of food and fuel supply.

A Leader of state vigilante group in Mussa District in Askira-Uba local government area of Borno state, Apagu Istifanus, said the women surrendered between Monday and Tuesday this week..

''On Monday 4 of them came to Askira after thorough investigation, they told us that their husbands could no longer feed them that they are many in the bush but more were still coming, they have been taken to Biu town for more information. Yesterday at about 4 pm another 8 surfaced again, two of them several months pregnant,. Their husbands had left them and their children at Ngude village in Damboa local government area. But we have handed over to the military. They have moved them to Mubi,'' Apagu said.

Too Bad! Hotel guest finds camera hidden in shower meant for her room

Too Bad! Hotel guest finds camera hidden in shower meant for her room

A guest found a hidden camera in her shower which was linked by a wire to a cupboard in the hotel hallway. Harmony Hachey, 23, from Edinburgh, was washing in the cubicle when she noticed a small electronic device hidden behind a vent at the Oxford Wheatley Travelodge.

She took a closer look and realised it was a camera which was pointing directly at where she was standing naked in the shower.

Ms Hachey immediately informed the hotel staff, who traced the device to a maintenance cupboard which backs onto the room.
She said: 'I was absolutely disgusted. I got a fork and stuck it in the vent. You could see so clearly it was a camera.

Ms Hachey, a food festival business development executive, had travelled to Oxford with colleagues last Friday as she was working at an event in the area over the bank holiday weekend.
She explained: 'It was on the first of my three nights. We had had a long day at work and went back to the hotel to have a shower.

A receptionist went to investigate and found the camera linked up to a cupboard next door (left)
'I broke down at one point. I just felt so violated.'
'I put all my luggage down, checked into the room, got myself ready for a shower and as I got ready for the shower I noticed a vent next to the shower head.
'It looked a little suspicious to me, like a camera, but I tried to convince myself that I was crazy and that it wasn't the case so I continued to have a shower and got it over as quickly as possible because I wanted to investigate what was in the vent.
'When I got out of the shower I poked around in the vent a little bit and the camera was being held up by white tape and it looked like it was trying to be hidden.

'I pulled the tape away and it was blatantly obvious it was a camera pointing at me while I was showering.'
Trying not to panic, she went to alert hotel staff and asked for a second opinion from her colleagues, who were also staying in the hotel.

She continued:
'The manager came down to the hotel and inspected the camera and looked in the janitor's closet behind where the camera had been installed.
'He immediately took it out using a plastic bag and luckily it wasn't attached to anything at the time so hopefully it wasn't live streaming.
A receptionist went to investigate and found the camera linked up to a cupboard next door.
'I don't know how long it had been in there, I don't know how many people it had filmed before me. I just felt completely shocked and violated and it was disgusting.'

The camera, which was attached to a USB cable but had not been switched on, was discovered in a cupboard located in the main hallway at the back of the shower.
Ms Hachey, who had taken photographs of her discovery, said: 'After that the police came, they had a look at my pictures and looked at the camera itself and the vent.'

She then received a call from upper management, who told her it was there for maintenance.
'She told me to calm down and there was no footage on there. But no one had looked,' she said.
After giving a statement to Thames Valley Police, Ms Hachey tried to find another place to stay for the weekend, but ended up having to switch rooms.

She said: 'I didn't want to stay in that room. They moved the bed into another room. Later I got a call from customer services saying I was going to get a full refund and that was it.'
A spokeswoman for Travelodge confirmed a device had been found in the room and apologised to Ms Hachey.
She added:
'We can confirm that on Friday 28th August 2015 a customer at our Oxford Wheatley hotel made us aware of the presence of what appeared to be a camera in their room.
'The privacy of our customers is a matter of the highest importance to us and the hotel team investigated immediately.
'While the camera appeared to be inoperative, we have reported this matter to the police and we are now supporting them fully with their ongoing investigations.

Pope Francis Tells Priests To Forgive Women Who Have Had Abortions (Read)

Pope Francis Tells Priests To Forgive Women Who Have Had Abortions (Read)

Pope Francis will allow Roman Catholic priests to absolve women who have had abortions if they seek forgiveness during the upcoming Holy Year of Mercy.

The pontiff said he will allow priests "discretion to absolve of the sin of abortion those who have procured it and who, with contrite heart, seek forgiveness for it" during the special year, beginning December 8.He also called for forgiveness to doctors who performed it. He wrote in an announcement by the Vatican..
"“I have decided, notwithstanding anything to the contrary, to concede to all priests for the Jubilee Year the discretion to absolve of the sin of abortion those who have procured it and who, with contrite heart, seek forgiveness for it,” he said.

I am well aware of the pressure that has led [women] to this decision, "I know that it is an existential and moral ordeal.

Abortion is considered a grave sin by the Catholic church, and those who seek it are usually excommunicated. In normal circumstances, forgiveness can only be granted by senior church figures.

Graduate And Four Others Arrested With N57m Cocaine (Photos)

Nonso Akubueze, a 28-year-old university graduate of Economics has been arrested along with four other suspects by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency for alleged drug trafficking.

It was learnt that Akubueze and the other suspects – Simon Omoluonye, Obidike Onodyer, Friday Onyeabor and Emma Ifoh – were apprehended at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, with 11.5 kilogrammes of cocaine substances valued at N57m.

The suspects had smuggled the drug into the country from Brazil.
Akubueze, who was found with 1.1kg of cocaine hidden in his luggage, said he had left Nigeria for Brazil with the hope of getting a good job but his expectation was dashed on getting there.
He said, “I am a 2009 graduate of Economics but I have no job. I left Nigeria in search of job opportunities. My condition of living in Brazil was worse than when I was in Nigeria. It was my friend that gave me the bag containing the drug.”
Omeluonye , 28, said he was to be paid N1m for the mission, adding that he had intended to use the proceed to start a business and further his education.
Forty-year-old Onodyer, told NDLEA investigators that he was paid N200,000 for the 11 wraps of cocaine he ingested.
He said,
“Drug trafficking was my last option to free myself from the harsh condition of living in Brazil. Unfortunately, I could only swallow 11 wraps so I was paid N200,000.”
The commander at the MMIA, Mr. Hamza Umar, said the seized drug comprised white and crack cocaine concealed in tins, among others.
He said,
“Different methods were adopted in concealing the drug. One of the suspects, Omoluonye, was caught with both white and crack cocaine in tins weighing 7.8kg. Akubueze had 1.1kg by the side of his luggage while Onodyer ingested 11 wraps of cocaine weighing 0.5 grammes. Onyeabor was found with 74 wraps weighing 1.3kg and Ifoh was caught with 34 wraps weighing 0.7 grammes.
“Apart from Onyeabor, who hails from Enugu State, the four other suspects are from Anambra State.”
The Chairman of the NDLEA, Ahmadu Giade, called on members of the public to shun drug trafficking and engage in legitimate business ventures.

Oh! Kris Jenner cancels TV appearance due to swollen lips from suspected insect bite

59 year old Kris Jenner cancelled her appearance on the "Bachelor in Paradise" after-show after suffering a nasty bug bite during her own trip to paradise.

She believes she sustained an allergic reaction to an insect bite during her recent family vacation in St. Barts, causing her lips to swell up well beyond their normal size.

Jenner, was originally scheduled to join "Bachelor" host Chris Harrison on the show on Aug. 31, but she was forced to cancel "After Paradise" due to the unexpected facial inflammation.
"I got up, and we just came back from St. Barts, we were on a family vacation filming our show about a week ago," she told Harrison.
"And I feel like, I don't know what happened," she continued. "I feel like I got a bite on my face and like half of my face blew up."

She said she took some medicine and even called a Doctor to her home to help with the swelling but nothing worked.
She said:
"They gave me everything they could possibly give me in 12 hours," she said. "It went down a little bit, but not quite enough. I'm a little too vain, I think, to go on live TV with a huge lip."

'Nigerians have no business being classified as poor because we are blessed' -- President Buhari

'Nigerians have no business being classified as poor because we are blessed' -- President Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari at the opening of the 45th Annual Conference of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, ICAN, in Abuja, said Nigerians have no business with poverty given the enormous resources the country has. He then promised to take appropriate measures to stamp out corruption and reposition Nigeria as a prosperous nation that can adequately cater for its citizens.

The President, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Finance, Mrs. Anastasia Nwaobia, blamed the poverty in the land on mis-governance and lack of transparency.

Meanwhile, former Minister of State for Finance, Mr. Remi Babalola, has recommended compulsory declaration of assets for all principal officers in the executive arm of government as a means of checking the menace of corruption. President Buhari said the nation’s ability to create wealth had increasingly been hampered by lack of good governance and accountability in the management of public resources at all levels in the past.

Buhari said:
“As blessed as we are as a nation, Nigerians have no business being classified as poor. Yet, through the greed of some unpatriotic few, our commonwealth has been badly pillaged in the name of public service. “Our ability as a nation to create wealth has increasingly been hampered by the lack of prudence, transparency and honesty in the management of public resources by some of those entrusted with the duty of governance at all levels in the past, so much that in the midst of plenty, Nigerians are now suffering great deprivation.
“This should not be allowed to continue. The project called Nigeria must be given our all. The nation ought and must leave the throes of poverty and underdevelop-ment because I believe we are naturally destined for greatness.’’
He expressed optimism of a glorious future, and urged Nigerians not to thrive on the illusion that the battle for enthronement of the right values will be easy.

He said:
"Corruption will certainly fight back’. But he said his administration is resolute in its desire to effect a change in the nation’s value system.
‘‘To achieve this, we must collectively resolve to build today for a blissful tomorrow. I am optimistic that the glorious dawn we all hope for will not be long in coming.
“But we are resolute in our commitment to effect change in our value system. We will give the battle our all to guarantee victory,’’ he said.
Buhari said he would lead by example by making effort to live above board, and promised to overhaul the bureaucracy of the public sector to further engender transparency and improve productivity in public governance.

Osun State Assembly: Lawmakers assure workers that outstanding salaries will be paid soon

Osun State Assembly: Lawmakers assure workers that outstanding salaries will be paid soon

Osun State House of Assembly has assured its workers that the relief package given to the state would be judiciously administered, saying that they would soon have their outstanding salaries paid, while the work-in-progress of public infrastructure would be attended to.

It also vowed to drive the anti-corruption crusade with its oversight functions, promising to break bureaucratic difficulties, which are capable of dragging development at a slow pace.

The speaker, Hon. Najeem Salaam, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Goke Butikakuro, stressed that the parliament under his watch was more than ready to bring all ministries, departments and agencies to account on how budgetary funds appropriated to them were managed with a view to getting them to be on their toes and be accountable to the public.

Salaam reiterated that the state parliament has taken the first leg of its anti-corruption crusade through the passage of the procurement bill into law, stating that the law when signed by Governor Rauf Aregbesola would drive the processes of contract award, purchases of the government and other state transactions; noting that punitive measures were well spelt out for the transgressors.

The Speaker also disclosed that the parliament would obtain the report of ongoing workers’ audit and frisk it in order to be updated on the actual numerical strength of the work force of the state with a view to giving rough tackles to the would-be manipulators of the process.

He expressed the support of assembly to Gov. Aregbesola in plugging all the financial leakages and cutting of cost of governance.

100 Days In Office: "The president never promised anything to anyone"-- Shehu Garba

100 Days In Office: "The president never promised anything to anyone"-- Shehu Garba

Senior Special Assistant to President Buhari on Media and Publicity, Shehu Garba, has denied claims that during the campaigns, President Buhari made some promises which he hoped to fulfill within 100 days in office.
Garba was speaking while reacting to the controversy surrounding
two booklets titled “One Hundred Things Buhari Will Do in 100 Days” and “My Covenant With Nigerians” which details all the promises the President and APC vowed to fulfill within 100 days in office.

According to Garba, Buhari never made any promise to anyone

“The president never promised anything to anyone. It is on record in that lecture at Chatham House they asked him a question relating to expectations and what he specifically would do in relation to certain documents that were flying around committing him to this thing or that thing within 100 days.
In that lecture, the video is already now viral on the web, he (Buhari) said it contained falsehood and I am not going to be engaged in deceit. I will go in there, I will see what is there and then get the intelligence, the knowledge of things that are going on and I will fully commit myself to serving Nigeria.
My point is that as the director, media and communications of that campaign, I was responsible for internal and external communications and these so called documents that are been flown around didn’t have my signature.
I didn’t fund them and I didn’t authorize them. From what President Buhari himself had said at Chatham House, he had no iota or knowledge of those documents. So, people cannot hold him to account on something to which he did not commit himself.
We prefer to talk about milestones instead of achievements. Whether the milestones represent achievements or not, that is left for the people to decide. Milestones have been achieved  which is important for the country"he said.

Quoting Buhari's reaction when asked a question of his alleged 100 days in office promises at Chatham house London, Shehu stated that President Buhari said
The second one: high expectations and what to do with the first 100 days. Yes, I respect that question because quietly I was thinking about these high expectations. Those who are following the trail of our campaigns can see how people are turning out, some becoming emotional and crying.
I am really getting scared that if I get there they will expect miracles within the next week or months. That would be very dicey handling that one. I think we have to have a deliberate campaign to temper high expectations with some reasonableness on the part of those who are expecting miracles to happen.
Just to go first to the ‘first 100 days’, some of it is fraudulent and I don’t want to participate in any fraud in any form. Nigerians know that we are in trouble as a people and as a country.”
When we get there we will quickly get correct intelligence of what is on the ground and inform Nigerians and just learn what I have just read.
We will make sure that the misappropriation and misapplication of public resources will not be allowed. You would be surprised by how much savings we will realize. That saving will be ploughed back into development and this is what I can promise. But I would remove that ‘100 days’”he said.
