Nigerian Army Finally Strikes Deep Into Sambisa Forest

Nigerian Army Finally Strikes Deep Into Sambisa Forest

Below is a statement recently released by the Nigerian army about its latest operations to end the Boko Haram menace in northeastern Nigeria:

The Nigerian Army has commenced strikes deep inside Sambisa forest which is believed to be the remaining strong point of the Boko Haram terrorists.

Various units of the Army have advanced deep into the forest clearing most of the camps therein, rescuing persons held captive, arresting some terrorists and destroying most of their weapons and equipment.

Advancing troops of the Nigerian Army, supported by the Nigerian Air Force were able to clear and destroy Boko Haram terrorists camps at Shuari, Adembe, Yerimari Kura, Yerimari Gana, Gonin Kurmi, Kore, Mainya Kore, and Lopere. Additionally, the Multi-barrel Rocket Launcher Regiment has destroyed the terrorists camps at Dure, Dure Kore, Jokwa, as well as several other camps.

The troops recovered foodstuff, motorcycles, flags, Improvised Explosive Making Devices (IED) materials and military uniforms. Among other discoveries were the terrorists tunnels, weapons and equipment. The soldiers also recovered 2,000 cows rustled from various persons over time and rescued women and children held captives by the Boko Haram. While the animals have been moved to Kanwuri, the rescued persons have been evacuated and are being given all the necessary support and assistance.

During the encounter with the terrorists at Yerimari Gana a number of Boko Haram terrorists were killed and some suspected terrorists were arrested who are being interrogated. However, a soldier sustained gunshot wound and fracture on the leg.

Similarly, while advancing to destroy Nefari terrorists camp, troops discovered and cleared 3 IEDs laid along the route. The camp was successfully cleared and troops have continued their advance while a blocking force has been deployed to prevent infiltration and possible escape by the terrorists.

Unfortunately during another encounter with the terrorists along the axis of advance, 3 soldiers made the supreme sacrifice, while an officer and 2 soldiers were wounded in action.
It is instructive to note that the troops morale is very high and being conscious of their set objective, they are unrelenting in their determination to defeat the Boko Haram terrorists.

In a related development, troops have also destroyed Boko Haram terrorists camps Bulagaije and Disa, Gwoza Local Government Area, Borno State and recovered motorcycles, Dane guns and ammunitions.

Frank Ribery sues magazine over prostitution claims

Frank Ribery sues magazine over prostitution claims

Former France international Franck Ribery is suing the magazine Closer for 400,000 euros ($434,000) over an article which claimed he was implicated in a prostitution case.

The 32-year-old is suing Mondadori Magazine France, which publishes Closer, for “serious prejudice to his image and dignity”, according to a document seen by AFP on Monday.
Closer had claimed Ribery was going to be in contact with a court of law over a prostitution case — in fact he was only a witness.

The winger, who returned to action for his German club Bayern Munich at the weekend following a nine-month injury lay-off, had previously been charged with paying for sex with an underage prostitute in 2009, although he was exonerated last year.

“Franck Ribery has once again been the victim of serious schemes committed by the French media with no aim other than to sully his reputation and throw it into the mud,” said the document.
Ribery was interviewed by police on November 26 as a witness, a police source told AFP last Wednesday.
However, Closer deny having done anything wrong.

“Closer published information that was verified and confirmed by police,” the magazine’s lawyer Delphine Pando said in a statement sent to AFP.

“(Closer) took care to clarify that he was released and that no charges were brought against him.
“Closer’s editors insist that this information, which was presented as a rumour, was confirmed by Franck Ribery’s lawyer.”

$15m bribery allegation: Nuhu Ribadu lied – Ex Gov Ibori

$15m bribery allegation: Nuhu Ribadu lied – Ex Gov  Ibori

Ibori and Ribadu

In a statement released by Chief Ibori’s Media office and signed by Mr. Tony Eluemunor, Chief Ibori’s Media Assistant, Ibori’s first reaction was to once again overlook the wild claim as Ribadu appears to be back at his game.

“As the Senate and some security agencies appear to be asking questions about some unwholesome events at the EFCC, including the mismanagement and criminal diversion of funds from the sale of confiscated properties into personal pockets, Ribadu may have a need to attempt to burnish his fading image, fearing the investigations may ask questions about events during his tenure. But he should be told that lying, against even an enemy, just to gain some unearned applause and perhaps fence off some approaching investigation and image disaster, must have a limit,” the statement reads.

Ribadu claimed in the news reports: “Ibori approached me with $15million to stop his investigation. I called my people because the money was in big bags, which two people could not carry and we deposited it in the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) as evidence against him”.

“This nonsensical statement has remained in the public domain only because some people have suspended their sense of disbelief and condemned themselves to every hogwash that Ribadu invents in the attempt spruce himself up in borrowed plums”.

“It is on record that Ribadu has made at least five statements over this same claim, and no single one agreed with another. Also both Ibrahim Lamorde (the immediate past EFCC Chairman(and one James Garba, a CBN staff then seconded to the EFCC, made police statements which contradicted Ribadu’s. Even Senator Andy Uba said in a statement that EFCC collected the said money from his house’.

‘Nigerians should know that it was the money from Obasanjo’s Third Term Tenure elongation bid that was dressed up as a bribe just to demonize Ibori. Some five billion dollars were employed to bribe the national and state legislatures to support the accursed project, with certain individuals receiving from N50 to N200 million’.

“The attempt to shoot Ibori down began in 2003, when some PDP Governors were opposed to Obasanjo’s second term bid. That money, sourced from wherever, was used against Ibori, as part of that long-time ‘bring Ibori down project’ . We challenge any newspaper or magazine to check all the statements on this bribery allegation and see how each of them, including Ribadu’s five different statements, howls to Ribadu himself: “you are a damned liar”. We challenge the journalists to please hasten to prove us liars by looking into those statements”.

In this latest report, Ribadu told another damned lie: “I arrested Ibori and prosecuted him. Since his friend was in power, they removed me, sent me to a school as a student where I was once a teacher”.

December 31 deadline to destroy Boko Haram can be modified - President Buhari

December 31 deadline to destroy Boko Haram can be modified - President Buhari

President Buhari has said the December 31st deadline he gave the military to destroy Boko Haram can be modified if there are reasons to do so. He made this known through the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Gabriel Olonisakin, at the opening ceremony of the 2015 annual conference of the Chief of Army Staff in Dutse, Jigawa state today December 7.

"Let me emphasise that the timeframe given should serve as a guide and if exigencies of multiple operations across the country requires modification, the Federal Government will not hesitate to do so in order to address the flash points that are emerging in parts of the country. The Nigerian Army must, therefore, develop strategies to address the current challenges facing the country and ensure total elimination of the insurgents.".
On August 13th, President Buhari while swearing in the new service chiefs, charged them to defeat the insurgents before the end of the year. The reality of insurgency is being known now. God help Nigeria!
