Presidency To Deactivate Redundant Social Media Pages

The Presidency has signed up on Facebook page, bringing the number of social media pages President Muhammadu Buhari is associated with to six.

This comes at a time the media team is auditing the digital media presence of the President with a view to deactivating those that are no longer active.

Buhari has two accounts on Twitter, one on Facebook and another on Instagram. The Presidency, as an institution, owns an account on Twitter in addition to the newly-created Facebook page.
Some of the pages were signed up during the 2015 general elections. They were created as part of campaign tools of the President. After the elections, some of the accounts went dormant, but they have not been taken down.

On what the media team intends to do with the inactive accounts, Special Assistant to the President on Digital/New Media, Tolu Ogunlesi, said an audit had commenced on Buhari’s social media platforms with a view to deactivating the redundant ones.

“We are currently doing an audit on all the Presidency’s social media platforms so that we can streamline the messaging. Redundant platforms will be deactivated,” Ogunlesi, who also revealed a plan to create a YouTube channel, said via an SMS.

@AsoRock, the Presidency’s Tweeter handle, has stopped publishing since May 31, 2015. It was used to announce the appointment of Buhari’s media aides – Femi Adesina and Garba Shehu – after which it was abandoned.

The page, which invites Nigerians to follow it for “latest information from the administration of Buhari”, started tweeting on May 28, 2015, a day before the administration was inaugurated.
Buhari’s personal Twitter page – @MBuhari – played a key role in the social media profiling of the President during the 2015 presidential election. The President, even after an official Twitter handle (@NGRPresident) was created, continued to use @MBuhari after he was sworn-in.

But like @AsoRock, @MBuhari was abandoned on September 6, 2015. Its last tweets included what the administration considered as its achievements in its first 100 days in office. Notwithstanding its status, @MBuhari remained the highest-followed digital page of the President. It is followed by 525,000.
On June 18, 2015, the President took to his verified Facebook page to mourn Nigerians who lost their lives to terrorism, after which he urged for cooperation to end insurgency.

“I mourn every single death of a Nigerian as a result of terrorism. That is why security is my number one priority. Our efforts to strengthen security cooperation with our neighbours and adjust our own response to Boko Haram will yield results very soon. Our resolve and capacity to end terrorism is much greater than the threat we face. Nigeria will prevail,” he posted.

The message made headlines on blogs and other social media. But the post seemed to serve as the sign-off message on the page.

Over nine months after it hit the cyberspace, the page has not been updated. Yet, hundreds of people go on the platform daily to express their views on policies and pronouncements by the President.
Instagram also welcomed @ThisIsBuhari sometime during the presidential campaign with excitement. In the early days of the administration, the page was ‘kept going’. It was, however, suspended before Buhari marked 100 days in office.

For now, only the newly-created Facebook page and @NGRPresident are functional. The two accounts, which are linked together, publish activities of the President and his vice, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo.
Except the unused platforms are deactivated, Buhari is currently ahead of his peers, at least, in Africa in terms of number of digital media pages.

  • Turkish president reveals Ibrahim El Bakraoui was detained in Gaziantep in southern Turkey near the Syrian border
  • Belgian brothers Ibrahim and Khalid El Bakraoui named as suicide bombers who struck in airport and Metro train
  • Najim Laachraoui originally thought to be 'Man in White' but tonight dramatically revealed as other airport bomber
  • It means the 'Man in White' - now Europe's most wanted man - remains a mystery and he is still thought to be on run
  • Brussels airport bomber Laachraoui was explosives expert who also made suicide vests for the Paris massacres
  • Twin ISIS attacks killed 34 people - 14 at Brussels airport at 8am and 20 more at Maelbeek station 79 minutes later
  • Driver who took terrorists to airport reveals that fourth suitcase bomb was left behind because it wouldn't fit in taxi
  • Cabbie was suspicious after attacks and led police to safehouse containing fourth bomb, ISIS flag and suicide note

One of the Brussels bombers was arrested in Turkey and deported back to Belgium in June with a warning that he was a militant, it has sensationally been revealed.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Ibrahim El Bakraoui, who yesterday blew himself up at Brussels Airport, was arrested in Gaziantep in southern Turkey close to the Syrian border last summer. Officials said he was deported to Holland before being passed back over to Belgium.

The president said Belgian authorities had failed to confirm the suspect's links to terrorism 'despite our warnings that he was a foreign fighter'.

The revelation came as it was dramatically revealed this evening that the identity of the 'Man in White', who was previously thought to be explosives expert Najim Laachraoui, remains a mystery. He is now Europe's most wanted man and a major international manhunt to find him remains ongoing.

It emerged as it was revealed that Laachraoui was actually the other airport suicide bomber, who was pictured on the left-hand side on CCTV footage showing the three ISIS suspects wheeling their suitcases into the terminal prior to the deadly bombing which occurred at 8am local time yesterday.

Ibrahim and Laachraoui killed 14 people and injured dozens of others when they set off suicide vests and explosives-packed suitcases at the airport. They were accompanied by the 'Man in White' who abandoned his suicide mission and fled the terminal when his nail-shrouded bomb failed to explode.

Just 79 minutes later, Ibrahim's brother - Khalid El Bakraoui - detonated his suicide vest on a Brussels Metro train at Maelbeek station killing 20 people.

Earlier today, it emerged that Ibrahim left a suicide note telling how he was desperate to blow himself up because he did not want to go to prison like his friend, the Paris logistics chief Salah Abdeslam.

The typed note, found next to 15kg of homemade explosives, an AK-47 and an ISIS flag during a raid at a property in the Schaerbeek area of the city, said: 'I don't know what to do. I'm in a hurry. I'm on the run. People are looking for me everywhere. And if I give myself up then I'll end up in a cell.'

The latest twist came after it was revealed the Belgian El Bakraoui brothers escaped police in a gunfight during an anti-terror raid just eight days ago.

Pro wrestler Hulk Hogan Speaks Out Following $140 Million law suit Win

Hulk Hogan has spoken out following his headline-making legal win against Gawker media.

The former pro wrestler was  awarded $115 million in his sex tape case against the website, and an additional $25 million in punitive damages, and although Hogan has faced some seriously terrifying opponents in the ring, he confessed to the New York Post that Gawker founder Nick Denton"scared the hell out of me."

"Denton and I had a stare-down. He scared me staring at me, man. He just sat there staring. It was right after his cross-examination. He stood up and stared. It was like he was going to call me out at ‘Wrestlemania,' Yikes!"

Hogan revealed he was offered "a large amount of money'' to settle but decided against it because, "if I put my tail between my legs, if I take the money but don't tell the truth or I don't face [the situation], I'm not going to be able to live with myself. I knew how unhappy I would be. I told my wife, I said, ‘Jennifer, I just got to follow my heart,' " Hogan said.

"It's embarrassing, though, believe me," the wrestler said of the highly publicized trial. "After Gawker had posted the video, it was almost like when I lived in Minnesota and the sun went away and it was like seven months of being real cloudy when I lived in the Twin Cities."

Hogan continued to note that he'd run into kids who would say that they tried to download his wrestling videos but found his sex tape instead. "I dealt with so many horrible things, people in public asking me about the tape. I felt like I had, all of a sudden I had a heat lamp on me at all times.''
"All I did was write for 11 days affirmations: I am victorious. I am grateful. I am highly favored by God and His universe.''

Nigerian Senate Passes 2016 Budget

Nigerian Senate Passes 2016 Budget

The Senate on Wednesday, passed the 2016 Appropriation Bill sent to a joint session of the national assembly by President Muhammadu Buhari, on December 22, 2015.

The Senate Committee on Appropriation presented a budget of N6.06 trillion  to the Senate for passage.
According to the report, the Committee set recurrent expenditure at 2.6 trillion, capital expenditure at 1.5 trillion and fiscal deficit at 2.2 trillion.
The Committee observed that the executive presented the budget late to the National Assembly and this has subsequently delayed the passage.

The Committee also noted that the budget, as presented by the executive, was fraught with inconsistencies as some Ministers disowned their budgets.
The Committee is recommending that going forward, the Budget Office must work with MDA’s in preparing the budget to avoid the problem of inadequate revenue for MDA’s.

Mother of co-joined twins at Enugu hospital begs for help to save the life of her babies

Mrs Mary Ayeni who delivered a set of twins co-joined at the abdominal area has publicly asked for help after the Enugu hospital where she was delivered of the twins allegedly insisted that they must carry out the operation to separate the twins, saying they were capable and did a similar operation in the 80's.

The woman who wants the children to have the best medical care and ensure the children live, has asked the hospital for scan sheets and medical documents so the babies could be transferred to a better hospital that has good medical facilities and expertise to ensure safe surgery, but the hospital has refused, claiming they can successfully carry out the surgery as they had done it in the 80's.

The hospital management is yet to comment on the issue. Watch the video below...

No more rice importation - Governor Ambode

No more rice importation - Governor Ambode

Read the press statement below..
In line with the persistent calls for a paradigm shift from over dependence on oil as the major earner of the country, the Lagos State Government and Kebbi State on Wednesday entered into a partnership on the establishment of a commodity value chain that will give a quantum leap to food processing, production and distribution.
The partnership is aimed at bringing about national food sufficiency and food security, as well as creating employment and wealth distribution for the benefit of both states and the nation in general.

Speaking at the official signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two states held at the Banquet Hall, Lagos House, Ikeja, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode said the partnership signaled the commencement of a new beginning of cooperation and common-sense revolution, which is line with the change mantra of All Progressives Congress (APC) that calls for patriotism in all facets of life.

Governor Ambode, who said the partnership would bring an end to the era of imported rice in the country, noted that there was no doubt about the economic prowess of the country to produce rice locally.
“This is the first time in the history of Nigeria that two States are collaborating to develop their agricultural potentials. We have the economic prowess to produce rice locally. The era of imported rice is gone. The reality is for all of us to embrace the consumption of local foodstuff and commodities,” he said.

The Governor acknowledged the fact that the future of Lagos is partly tied to deliberate resolution on food security, and that food production and self-sufficiency required immediate attention at policy and strategic levels to sustain the country, hence the need for the partnership.
“Lagos State is the largest consumer of food commodities in Nigeria by virtue of our State population. We have the market, with the required purchasing power also. Lagos State has an estimated consumption of over 798,000 metric tonnes of milled Rice per year which is equivalent to 15.96 million of 50kg bags, with a value of N135 billion per annum,” he said.

In addition to rice, Governor Ambode said Lagos is presently consuming 6,000 herds of cattle daily which may increase to 8,000 in the next 5years, adding that the bulk of vegetables produced in the country eventually end up in the Lagos markets.

He added: “Lagos State is one of the largest producers of poultry and thus has a large demand for maize for livestock feed production. The State also houses most of the industrial users of wheat and sorghum; mostly flour mills, bakeries, breweries and food manufacturers.
“Kebbi State, on the other hand, is blessed with a vast arable land suitable for the cultivation of Rice, Wheat, Ground nut, Maize, Sorghum and Sugar cane.

“It is an agrarian State with over 1.2 million hectares of arable land characterised by very large floodplains, lowland swamps and gentle slopes. In the 2014 / 2015 wet season, over 600,000 Hectares of land was deployed for Rice cultivation in the three senatorial areas of the State.
“The people are traditionally Rice farmers with average land holding of about 10 Hectares. Presently, Kebbi has over 50,000 metric tonnes of paddy in store produced from the last 2 planting seasons.

“With these considerations in mind, Lagos State and Kebbi State have decided to collaborate and exploit our areas of comparative advantage to create value for both States. This alliance will ensure Food Security, job creation, increase in farmers’ income and the overall improvement in the living conditions of the residents of both states through wealth creation and poverty reduction.

“This collaboration is in line with the clarion call and policy direction given by the President, Muhammadu Buhari, on the need to feed ourselves,” Governor Ambode stated.

The joint venture between the two states, Governor Ambode explained, will be implemented using a Special Purpose Vehicle known as LASKEB Agricultural Production and Marketing Company (LAPMCO), adding that the major areas of focus will be the development of commodity value chains with emphasis on Rice, Wheat, Ground Nut, Onions, Maize/Sorghum and Beef.

Speaking further on the agreement, Governor Ambode said: “The numerous thousands of our market women and men can become key employers of labour as distributors of ‘Ibile Rice’. We can also brand and package rice in the names of our distributors and market women. As a State, we shall adopt our local rice as a State dish in all ramifications.

“The special purpose vehicle will allow the entrance of private sector investors and other states in expanding the rice mill at Imota, Ikorodu and other locations. We have already designated the 100 hectare land at Imota as the Agric Park in the State. Other locations in and outside the State will be vigorously activated to fulfill our mission in record time.”

Also speaking at the event, which was attended by top government functionaries, traditional rulers and members of the Organised Private Sector (OPS) from both states, Kebbi State Governor, Alhaji Atiku Bagudu thanked Governor Ambode for providing leadership and innovation that brought about the partnership, adding that same was in line with the effort of President Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo to restructure Nigeria away from overdependence on oil.

Governor Bagudu said in the world of genetically modified food, the partnership between Lagos and Kebbi was an additional motivation to provide certainties for the people in terms of food production and sufficiency, and that the goal is to produce 60 to 70 percent of Nigeria’s Rice needs, and replicate same in other food items.

He said the agreement had the broadest public acceptance in Kebbi State, and that the people, especially farmers in the state, are delighted to partner with Lagos, which he described as the most entrepreneurial part of Nigeria.

He said Lagos and Kebbi have had a long history of trade, and that the signing of the MoU was a further way of cementing the relationship with the view to make the people to get richer.

“Lagos is the most entrepreneurial part of Nigeria. Lagos, if it were a country on itself, is a country that other states will be going to establish a relationship and so why not state to state. So, what we are doing is that we are pioneering a collaboration that will bring other states on board later and we believe that our potentials is enormous and we must have pacesetters to start that process of joint collaboration for our collective good,” Governor Bagudu said.

Football star quits Belgium with family after terror attack in Brussels

Football star quits Belgium with family after terror attack in Brussels

Matias Suarez who plays for Belgium's biggest club Anderlecht has decided to quit football in Belgium after yesterday's terrorists attack at one of the country's airports.

Suarez, from Argentina, whose club is based in Brussels, says he has informed his agent and is determined to leave the club and country as soon as possible saying he fears for the safety of his family.
The Argentine forward has revealed that Belgium is a different place since the attacks on Paris in November.
“It’s nothing to do with the country, which is incredible," he said. "I love Belgium and the people here. But I’ve talked to my agent and my wife already and for the safety of the family we’ve decided to leave in June. After everything that happened in Paris, people have changed completely here. In the streets and shopping centres you don’t see many people. People basically don’t leave their homes because of this fear. In Brussels we have a neighbourhood where lots of jihadists live and lots of people who are involved in these awful things and, unfortunately, talking to my wife and my friends we knew something like this was going to happen. I wasn’t at home, I was on the way to training in the morning and listening to the radio when I found out. I was very scared. I tried ringing to find out if my daughter was okay and if I had to go and get her. It’s scary, more than anything for the family. That is why we will leave."

Seattle Man builds house on tree, refuses to come down

Seattle Man builds house on tree, refuses to come down

Twelve Hours Later: Seattle Man in Tree Still Refuses to Come Down, Made a Fort
Earlier this afternoon, a man in Seattle decided to climb up a tree, throw apples at the surrounding medics, and otherwise refuse any attempt at aid. Twelve hours later, he is showing no signs of letting up. In fact, it looks like our Man in Tree has even begun to build himself a home.

In the initial hours, crews brought a crane to the scene to attempt to negotiate with the man, but to no avail, as he was “tossing small branches, orange peels, pine cones and other materials at rescuers and claimed to be armed with a knife.” He also apparently requested Camel Crush cigarettes.

After hours of refusing to come down, vigilante cosplayer Phoenix Jones decided that he just might have what ailed the man (in the tree).

Self-proclaimed citizen superhero “Phoenix Jones,” who has apparently dealt with Man in Tree before (in what capacity remains inconclusive) came bearing a sandwich, beer, and Newports for the man, demanding to be allowed to help. The cops, however, denied the man’s LARP request.

Man in Tree is nothing if not self-sufficient. As you can see in the video below, after spending a good fifteen minutes unsuccessfully trying to make himself comfortable, he decided to take destiny into his own hands.
He is breaking the branches keeping him from certain death (or at the very least, blinding pain) in order to build himself his very own tree bed.

Never seen this before...
Hope he comes down one day.

Landlord sues Tyga for $75000 worth of damage (photos)

Landlord sues Tyga for $75000 worth of damage (photos)

Tyga is in it again with yet another landlord. TMZ reports that the landlord of the space he rents for his clothing company, Egypt Last Kings Clothing, is furious after finding the place in a state of disrepair and has sued the 26-year a old rapper for being a 'nightmare tenant'. Tyga is said to have caused $75000 worth of damage to the property.

Tyga - who is a fan of Egyptian history and design - reportedly painted the doors and ceilings black with Egyptian symbols and there were ink stains all over the floor. That landlord is seeking redress for damages to the property and five months of rent owed by the rapper.

Only last month, there were reports his landlord was seeking to evict him from the $4.8million home he rents currently. It is claimed the star pays $40K-a-month in rent on the six-bedroom property which comes with a rooftop jacuzzi, swimming pool with fountain, cinema and wine cellar.

Looks like Tyga has a thing for getting into trouble with landlords. Last august he was ordered to pay $70,000 to the owner of his former Calabasas property following a dispute over rent payments.
The judge ruled against the star after he failed to appear in court, although he had claimed that he was trying to buy the house.

Two months before, he was ordered to pay $80000 to the owner of a different Calabasas home on which he owed $124000 in rent.
