A minister in Goodluck Jonathan's govt stole $6billion - Gov. Oshiomole

Edo state governor, Adams Oshiomole has alleged that a minister that served in former president Jonathan's administration stole a whooping $6billion. Governor Oshiomole made the allegation while speaking to state house correspondents after a meeting with President Buhari today.

He said American officials made the alleged fraud known to the Buhari led delegation during the state visit to the US last week.
"PDP destroyed the country. I mean from the lips of American officials; senior officials of the state department. They said one minister under PDP cornered as much as $6billion, and the man said even by Washington standard that is earth-quaking,” he said.
Governor Oshiomole said if not that Nigerians are patient people, anybody who carried the PDP badge would have been stoned. He said PDP members ought to feel very unsafe ...
"We are a very patient people. If we were not a patient people, anybody wearing the tag of PDP ought to feel very unsafe because you are all victims- all of us here,” he said.

President Buhari appeals to APC House of rep members to resolve their crisis before tomorrow

President Buhari has appealed to APC members in the House of Representatives to put aside their differences and resolve their issues before tomorrow's plenary session. Speaking at a meeting which he convened earlier today, President Buhari insisted the party members in the lower chamber must respect the decision of the party regarding appointment of principal leaders in the house.

A source at the meeting which lasted for just 20 minutes, told Premium Times that President Buhari asked the members to maintain party discipline and follow their party's directive.

"He said he never wanted to interfere in the affairs of the Legislature, but he’s now forced to do so to maintain party discipline. The president said it is unacceptable for him to be in office under the APC, and the PDP would be allowed to dictate who occupies positions in an administration he heads. Buhari urged all members to look beyond themselves and consider the country and the platform under which they were elected.” the source said

Former Minister Allison-madueke Critically ill In A London Hospital

Some family members of the immediate past minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Allison-Madueke have appealed to Nigerians, especially her critics to let her be.

Mrs Allison-Madueke is said to be in a critical condition from an undisclosed ailment in a London hospital.
“Our daughter has been in hospital where is receiving treatment for some weeks now. She is currently under close medical observation. We learnt that the observation means that she has been unable to see anyone outside close family members over the last few weeks.
“They have also discouraged her use of phones to avoid any risk of infection which will be extremely harmful for her.
“Diezani is responding well, but doctors are concerned about her movement and interaction given the intense treatment being administered.
“It is such an emotional time for us all as she is quite fragile and we are careful to keep her away from all the gossip and falsehoods being attributed to her in the media. We expect the media to respect the family’s feelings at this trying time,” the family said.
On those calling for the probe of the former minister, the source appealed for balanced coverage of some of the opinions being bandied around by different interest groups.
“The press, especially online media, should be careful to be professional and balanced in their reporting,” a family source added.

President Buhari Reveals His Kind Of Ministers (Read)

President Buhari Reveals His Kind Of Ministers (Read)

My kind of ministers - Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday said he will pick patriotic, decent and experienced people to serve as ministers in his administration.

He assured that technocrats and politicians will make the much awaited list of ministerial of nominees.
Buhari spoke on “Good Morning Nigeria,” a Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) programme on Monday.

The President said, “From what I have seen so far, we need
really patriotic Nigerians. Those that can work very hard, knowledgeable, experienced and committed Nigerians, to be in charge of ministries.

“A lot of the institutions of Nigeria, the important institutions, were compromised. Everybody was for himself and God for all of us, it’s most unfortunate.
“We have the people, educated people, experienced people but everybody seemed to be working for himself, thinking of how much he could get as much and as quick as possible.

“We have to look for technocrats and we have to look for politicians and certainly we have to look for decent people in this class to give them the responsibility of being in charge of ministries and important parastatals (agencies).”

Buhari said his government will try as much as possible to “avoid appointing hostages.”
“By this, I mean people who have been in the system but compromised their personal and professional integrity. It is taking so much time because a number of knowledgeable people have been compromised,” he added.

Prof. Soyinka Has Better Expertise In Wine Matters Than In Political Analysis - Obasanjo

Prof. Soyinka Has Better Expertise In Wine Matters Than In Political Analysis - Obasanjo

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has said that he maintains his view, as expressed in his three-volume autobiography, My Watch, that Nobel laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, has better expertise in wine matters than in political analysis.

In the book, Obasanjo wrote, “For Wole, no one can be good, nor can anything be spot-on politically except that which emanates from him or is ordained by him. His friends and loved ones will always be right and correct, no matter what they do or fail to do. He is surely a better wine connoisseur and a more successful aparo (guinea fowl) hunter than a political critic.”

However, last year December, shortly after the book went public, Soyinka had, in a piece titled, ‘Watch and Pray, Watch and Prey’, vehemently protested such a description (of him), calling Obasanjo ‘’an expert liar, who lies to boost his ego.’’

But in an interview granted a private television station, Channels, on a programme tagged, ‘Book Club’, Obasanjo, while holding on to his words, said what he wrote about Soyinka was purely his view, adding that Soyinka did not have to agree with him.

The former President, who added that he did not write the book to please anybody, also disclosed that there was a lingering feud between him and the Nobel laureate, who, he said, had vowed that the differences between the two of them would not be resolved on earth.

Obasanjo, however, said he had told Soyinka that, in that case, whichever of them gets to heaven first should wait at the gate to welcome the other.

He said, “Wole Soyinka is a gifted man. I have always acknowledged that but he is a bad politician and I have also always said that. That is my own point of view. He may agree with it, he may not agree with it.

“But having said that, I also, in my book, bring out Wole Soyinka as I see him and that’s my own judgment; that’s my own perspective of him. He may agree, he may not agree but anybody can bring out his own perspective of me.

“For instance, I know that if I want somebody to give me the best wine, one of the people I will go to is Wole Soyinka and I know he has a taste for good wine and I said that in the book.”

Obasanjo also dismissed a rejoinder to his book titled, ‘Watch the Watcher’, written by the Publicity Secretary of the Afenifere, Yinka Odumakin, saying the book was not worth being kept in anybody’s library.

Obasanjo, who said Odumakin was paid by former President Goodluck Jonathan to write the book, said he could not be worried because Odumakin did not write anything that will last.
Obasanjo said, “Yinka Odumakin was hired to do the hatchet job and he did it.

“It was part of the campaign of Goodluck Jonathan and he did serve the purpose of Goodluck Jonathan. But whether Goodluck Jonathan gained from it or Yinka Odumakin gained from it, well, it’s now left to history.

“But how should I worry about that? That Yinka Odumakin was hired by Goodluck Jonathan to do a job, which he did and Yinka Odumakin didn’t write anything to last. He wrote current affairs, not a book that anybody will seriously want to keep in his library and that’s the way I see it. And a book should be something that somebody wants to keep in the library.”

President Buhari Won’t Stop Trial Of Senate Rule Forgery Suspects – Presidency

President Buhari Won’t Stop Trial Of Senate Rule Forgery Suspects – Presidency

The Presidency on Sunday said President Muhammadu Buhari would not stop the prosecution of anybody indicted in the report of the Nigeria Police on the forgery of the Senate Standing Order.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, said this on Sunday in an exclusive interview with one of our correspondents in Abuja.

Shehu said Buhari believed in the rule of law and would not do anything that would derail any judicial process, stressing that those who were constitutionally saddled with the process did not need the President’s clearance to do their job.

He said, “They do not need the President’s clearance to prosecute anybody found guilty of any investigation. President Muhammadu Buhari, as all Nigerians know, believes very strongly in the rule of law.

“The President will therefore not do anything that will stop the judicial process. He won’t stop it (the trial of suspects in the Senate forgery case).”

There were reports on Sunday that the police investigation had confirmed that the Senate standing order was forged and that the police had recommended that some staff of the National Assembly should be prosecuted.

The police had invited the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu and some other National Assembly officials over a petition alleging that the Senate standing rules were tampered with in the conduct of the election of Senate President Bukola Saraki, Ekweremadu and other principal officers on June 9.

Though the Director (Information), Federal Ministry of Justice, Mr. Charles Nwodo, could not confirm to The PUNCH if the report had been submitted to the ministry for prosecution to begin, some lawyers on Sunday said the alleged offence was criminal and that culprits would be made to face the wrath of the law.

A Lagos-based lawyer, Mr. Jiti Ogunye, said considering the enormity of the alleged crime, government should go ahead to take the appropriate action on the report regardless of any political interpretation given to it.

Ogunye said, “The release of the report vindicates the widely held view that what took place in the National Assembly towards June 9 and in particular the election in the Senate on that day following the proclamation of the National Assembly was a sham.

“This report tells us that a lot of ugliness is going on in our public life. Because we are not talking about Students’ Union parliament or a private document, we are talking about the National Assembly of Nigeria.

“So if the bureaucracy of the National Assembly can be enmeshed in lawmaking forgery, the implication of that is that Nigeria is a nation of forgers. That would then mean that these people can also forge laws.

“With the report, the law should take its course whether you are a clerk of the National Assembly or a senator of the National Assembly.”

APC Fires Back At PDP, Says They Sounds Like A Compendium Of Beer Parlor Gossips (Read)

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has said the PDP as a party cannot provide any worthwhile opposition to the APC-led Federal Government if its spokesman continues to issue convoluted and fustian statements just so that he can be in the news.

Read the statement below;
Today’s statement is the most tortuous yet by the PDP and, honestly, sounds more like a compendium of beer parlor gossips and side talks than a serious criticism of a sitting government,” the APC said in a statement issued in Lagos on Sunday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed.
To be in opposition does not mean you have to constitute yourself to a nuisance by rushing to the press with all sorts of hot air statements. It is the quality, rather than the frequency, of your interventions that makes you relevant as an opposition in a democracy,” the party said.
It said that in the light of the above, the APC will not dignify the latest in a series of confused statements by the PDP with any response. ”We can only say that we have been justified, and indeed prescient, in our earlier offer to organize a crash course for Olisa Metuh so that he can more effectively perform his role as the spokesman of the main opposition party.
Those who thought we were joking with that offer can now see that indeed, Mr. Metuh is seriously in need of some form of coaching on his new role,” APC said. The party said for the record, no government in Nigeria’s recent history has been as focused and systematic as the one headed by President Muhammadu Buhari in restoring good governance, especially coming after the worst stretch of governance, lasting all of 16 years, by the immoral and reckless PDP.
It is worth noting that even the leader of the world’s foremost democracy, President Barack Obama, said that much during the recent visit to the US of President Buhari, when he described him (President Buhari) as a man of integrity with a clear agenda. ”President Buhari is working hard every day in the priority areas of tackling security and corruption, rebooting the economy to provide jobs for our teeming youths and generally to restore good governance.
We are sorry for those who are too blind with hatred to see this. ”We know that the PDP is terrified by the expose of how the Federal Government it led has looted the treasury and created an environment for impunity to thrive, as well as the fate that will befall those who were part of the show of shame and disgust.
But we assure Nigerians that this government will not interfere with the work of the security and anti-corruption agencies, and also that under the Buhari Administration, only the guilty needs to be afraid. ”In the meantime, no amount of mumbo jumbo from the PDP will stop the Buhari Administration from its tough but inevitable task of restoring Nigeria’s lost glory,” APC said.

Imagine Two teenagers stab their parents and 3 siblings to death

Imagine Two teenagers stab their parents and 3 siblings to death

Two Oklahoma teenagers, 18 year old Robert Bever and his 16-year-old brother, Michael Bever, have been accused of stabbing and killing 5 family members.

They were arrested after their 13-year-old sister who survived the attack identified them as the attackers in the Wednesday night massacre in Broken Arrow, OK.

The news comes as it was revealed the one of the victims, 12-year-old Daniel, had called 911 just before dying alongside his parents, David, 52, and April, 44, and siblings Christopher, 7, and Victoria, 5.

Although police originally said a 911 call from the home was silent, resulting in a welfare check, it has now been revealed in documents filed to support the teenager's arrest that a caller from the home was able to tell police that 'their brother was attacking their family'.

Crystal Bever, 13, is currently in a serious but stable condition in hospital.
The family were found dead at 11.30pm on Wednesday in their luxurious house in Broken Arrow, southeast of Tulsa.

Her two-year-old sister, Autumn Bever, was discovered unharmed and is in state custody. She was allegedly born prematurely and her parents had recently started a nonprofit to help other families who have premature children.

Investigators said a 12-year-old male called 911 at 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday and said they needed help because their brother was attacking the family. When officers arrived to the 700 block of Magnolia Court, they found blood on the porch and could hear a faint female voice inside asking for help.

When they made their way inside to the gruesome scene, they found the girl, who had been stabbed multiple times, the document says. The 12-year-old who called 911 was dead, they said.

"The young girl was still alive and made statements to the officers that her brothers [were] responsible for attacking her and her family," the arrest report says.

As reported earlier, police and a K9 officer were able to track down Bever and his 16-year-old brother in a wooded area behind the home, and the new report reveals they found fresh footprints in the back yard. The two were arrested and placed in the Broken Arrow city jail then transferred to the Tulsa County Jail on Friday.

Bever was booked on five first-degree murder complaints and one count of aggravated domestic assault and battery with a deadly weapon. In his mugshot, Bever appears to have blood splatters and mud on his face, and BAPD Cpl. Leon Calhoun said that many of the officers who have been involved in the investigation are disturbed by his demeanor.

"He has a smirk on his face …I don't know if there's any remorse whatsoever based on that picture," Calhoun said of Robert Bever's first mugshot. A second mugshot was taken once he was transferred to Tulsa County.

At this time, the youngest brother's name has not been made public in any news releases sent out by Broken Arrow police. A Tulsa County jailer, however, identified him to News On 9 as Michael Bever.

The 13-year-old girl survived surgery and is said to be stable at a local hospital.
Police said on Thursday that multiple knives and a hatchet were found in the home and are believed to be the murder weapons.

Singer Bobbi Kristina Brown dies

Bobbi Kristina Brown has died aged 22 - six months after she was found unconscious in a bathtub.
The aspiring singer was rushed to hospital and placed in a medically-induced coma on January 31 after she was discovered face-down in the water-filled tub at her townhouse in Roswell, Georgia.

She passed away, surrounded by her family, at the hospice on Sunday - just 3 years after her famous mother, singer Whitney Houston, died aged 48 in a bathtub at a hotel in Beverly Hills.

Officials are planning to treat the death of Bobbi Kristina, who was found in the tub with bruises on her face and body, swollen lips and a missing tooth, as a murder investigation.

The person of interest in the case will reportedly be her boyfriend, Nick Gordon.  The Houston family said on Sunday night that Bobbi Kristina 'is finally at peace in the arms of God.'
In a statement via a representative, they said: 'Bobbi Kristina Brown passed away July, 26 2015, surrounded by her family. She is finally at peace in the arms of God. We want to again thank everyone for their tremendous amount of love and support during these last few months.'

May her soul rest in peace!

Nigerian writes bounced cheque to his client, then kills her in LA after she complains

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder in the death of a Hollywood production assistant and police say the killing had to do with a dispute over money.
Ezeoma Obioha, 31, was arrested on Friday night and remains in jail where he is being held on a $1million bail.

Obioha and Carrie Jean Melvin knew each other and had a financial dispute. 30 year old Melvin was walking with her boyfriend in Hollywood, California, earlier this month when Obioha walked up behind them, aimed a pistol at her head and pulled the trigger.

After he shot her,he jumped into a black sedan and drove off. Melvin died at the scene.
Melvin’s father called his daughter’s death “incredibly senseless.” Bernie Melvin said she had studied film at UC Santa Cruz and moved to Hollywood about four years ago to break into the entertainment industry. Like many young Angelenos, he said, Carrie Melvin worked several jobs, waitressing, bartending, while pursuing that dream.

“She was really kind of spreading her wings,” he said at the time. “It’s an extreme loss to us. She had a lot to give, and her life was cut short.”

Three suspects arrested for diverting N40m USAID drugs

Three suspects arrested for diverting N40m USAID drugs

The police in Lagos State have arrested 3 suspected thieves, Emmanuel Onyike, 51; Alabi Daudu, 68; and Paul Aina, 58 for  allegedly diverting a container loaded with pharmaceutical drugs, valued at N40m, to the Igando area of the state.

It was gathered that the suspects were apprehended by the operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad attached to Zone 2, on Saturday, July 18.

According to the police, the container, which belonged to the United States Agency for International Development, was heading for a warehouse of the Society for Family Health in Sango Ota, Ogun State.

It was, however, hijacked and diverted by the suspects to a secluded warehouse in Igando, where the suspects reportedly planned to sell the contents.

Our correspondent gathered that about 500 cartons of drugs, which the container was conveying, had been recovered by the police.

It was learnt that other members of the syndicate, identified only as Ikechukwu, Babawale, Shola and Alhaji, were still at large.

Daudu, a native of Abeokuta, Ogun State, said:
“Babawale was a friend, and he was the one who brought the deal. He told me he had some goods, and I should get him a truck to convey them. I knew it was stolen goods, but I did not know they were USAID drugs.
“We drove from the Tin Can Port to an area in Igando. Babawale deceived me that the truck contained household batteries. He did not let the three of us know the warehouse.
“This is the fourth operation I would be participating in. I was arrested by the SARS, Ikeja, on a case of diverting roofing sheets. I got N1.8m from the operation. I got N2m from the second. I cannot remember the third. But now, I am repentant. I have grandchildren.”
Also, Aina from Itapa, Ekiti State, and father of six children, said Daudu lured him into the act, adding that his own role was to get buyers for the goods.
He said,
“I knew Daudu when we were selling clothes in Isolo. He told me there was a business he wanted us to do together. I did not have money. It was poverty that forced me to agree to the deal. The plan was to take the products to a buyer. I was asked to provide some of the buyers. I made a mistake. I don’t want to go to jail.”
The Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 2 Command, Joseph Mbu, said investigations were ongoing to apprehend others who are still at large.”
