Meet Africa's King Solomon With 100 Beautiful Wives (See Photos)

Meet Africa's King Solomon With 100 Beautiful Wives (See Photos)

Did you know that the 11th King of Bafut, Cameroon, addressed as Abumbi II, has about 100 wives?Well, they weren’t all his to start. According to local tradition, when a fon (king) dies, his successor inherits all his wives and then marries his own fresh queens.

“The queens have a great role to play in the fondom (kingdom),” says Prince Nickson, also of Bafut, noting that it is up to these women behind the man to shape him in his kingly role.

“Behind every successful man must be a very successful, staunch woman,” says Abumbi’s third wife, Queen Constance.
.

“Our tradition has it that when you are king, the elderly wives remain to hand down the tradition to the younger wives, and also to teach the king the tradition because the king had been a prince, not a king.”

Despite the fact that polygamy is legal in Cameroon, the data shows that there are far fewer polygamous marriages across the African continent. The practice is being challenged by changing values, the spread of the Christian faith, the growing appeal of the western way of life but also the rising costs of having large families. It is against this backdrop that Cameroon’s traditional rulers must walk the fine line between two often conflicting cultures.

“During colonialism other values came in, of governance, different from the traditional values we had and therefore there is this constant conflict between the traditional values and modern western values,” admits Fon Abumbi II, who has ruled Bafut, the largest fondom in the region, for 47 years.

“My role is to blend them, to find the way forward so my subjects can enjoy the fruits of development and modernity without destroying their culture. Without a culture, you are not a human being, you are an animal. And therefore the chieftaincy institution is the guarantor of our culture.”

Though polygamy is often met with criticism in the West, there are many who deem it a valuable tradition.

After meeting with Fon Abumbi II, Soni Methu, presenter for CNN’s Inside Africa, noted that there was more to the practice than meets the eye:

“I understand that we might be quick to judge the lifestyle of the kings, but just like in the United Kingdom, African kingdoms and kings are bound to a rich culture and history...”

She also observed that many of these royals are highly accomplished. On meeting the queens of Fon Ndofua Zofia II of Babungo – one of Cameroon’s youngest traditional rulers –Methu said:
“All his young wives spoke fluent English in a French-speaking region and were great marketers

Amancio Ortega Overthrows Bill Gates as the Richest Man in the World

Amancio Ortega Overthrows Bill Gates as the Richest Man in the World

Spanish clothing magnate Amancio Ortega, 79, over took Microsoft founder Bill Gates for the first time ever in the Forbes rich list. According to Forbes’s real-time tracker, the elusive multibillionaire founder of European clothing retailer Zara smashed past Bill Gates to become the wealthiest person on the planet, with a fortune of $79.8 billion (€71.83 billion or £51.84 billion). Bill Gates’ estimated net worth is $79.5bn as of this afternoon. He’s expected to take back his top position from Ortega.

The elusive Ortega isn’t as much of a household name as Gates, but he’s quietly ascended the wealth rankings in recent years, as his company continues to perform well and expand.
Unlike many of the richest people in the world, Ortega has a fascinating rags-to-riches story. Born in 1936 during the Spanish Civil War, Ortega’s father earned 300 pesetas a month, a meager salary.

Ortega’s biographer described his memories of a childhood during which his family could not always afford enough food. He left school in his early teens, working his way up from the absolute bottom rung as a messenger boy in a shop.

It wasn’t until he was 40 years old that Ortega got around to setting up Zara, the fast-fashion retailer that has gone from strength to strength — first growing in Spain, then neighbouring Portugal and France, then London. Now it’s all over the globe.

According to Forbes, Ortega’s wealth rose by 5.3%, another $4 billion, over the last 24 hours. That’s partly down to a surge in Inditex shares, the parent company that owns Zara.
In the last 10 years, the market value of Inditex has risen by about 570%, the main driver of Ortega’s climb up the ranks.

As written by By Amb Napoleon Jumbo Spiff..

Nigerians are beginning to understand the negative effect of President Buhari over the former helmsman, Goodluck Jonathan. Did you know that the Nigerian Economy is retrogressing on a daily bases?
Did you know that our Nigerian Military is on its worst performance in the fight against insurgency in the North-east today than yesterday?  Did you know that the Naira in your Bank account has no life of valuable currency before the American Dollar Today than Yesterday? Did you know that our electoral system is now buried in shame of sectionalisation and corruption today than ever before?

Did you know that 85% of those running around the change cabinet are left-overs and rudiments that contributed to the failures of 16years of our democratic journey?Did you know that the present administration led by President Buhari has no real economic policy that entails the thronging youths of this Nation? Did you know that after five months of President Buhari leadership there is no employment roadmap for the youths?

This and others tropical issues are my pains. I feel embittered, i feel pained, i feel disturbed. My sole concern is how shall we as a Nation proffer solutions to these challenging scenarios and satanic enemies that has been ravaging the promising destiny of our national life.

These are not issues of political parties affiliations, however, they're sensitive and cardinal issues which should be giving a paramount attention.Lets bury our political sentiments and proffer lasting remedies to these challenging circumstances that has threatened our national destiny.
