Robert Mugabe's 92nd birthday to be celebrated with 92kg cake, £550,000 festivities

Robert Mugabe who has been in power in Zimbabwe for 36 years turned 92 this week and staff at his office presented him with a huge cake to mark the occasion. A bigger party will be held this weekend in the city of Masvingo featuring a huge 92kg cake and the whole party costing £550,000. Interesting! Zimbabwean money talking!

The ‘thank you’ bash for the world’s oldest head of state will see banners and billboards carry the slogan ‘Thank you, Bob, for giving us a voice to be heard’. Mugabe’s birthday has been a public celebration since 1986 and while officials are reticent to disclose costs, past festivities have been said to run up to $1million for the transportation, accommodation and feeding of thousands of guests.

The state-run Sunday Mail published a 16-page supplement to celebrate this year’s occasion with posters in the newspaper reading ‘Mugabe’s birthday is like that of Jesus Christ’. Did you hear that? It can't be!

With Zimbabwe in the midst of a drought that has left over 3million people reliant on food aid supplied mainly by the United States and the European Union, opponents of the president have criticised the lavish celebrations at a time of hardship but supporters insist they must party on.

Ruling party members and business people paid between $5000 and $100000 for a table of 10 at a sold-out dinner this weekend to raise funds for the festivities.

Outside the banquet, some Zimbabweans were bitterly critical of the birthday plans.
‘Maybe they have no shame, openly feasting amid such hunger,’ said Denias Munongoza, 27, a college graduate who sells cigarettes and condoms to feed his family. ‘This year the president should have said `no.”
‘Mugabe and his cronies are planning to feast instead of attending to the resuscitation of the comatose economy and addressing the effects and impact of the drought,’ said Obert Gutu, spokesman for the opposition Movement for Democratic Change-T.

Here is what Stella-Dimoko Posted on her Blog:

"Today I reported exclusively that Comedian AY Makun’s lovely wife Mabel had moved out of their Lekki home and I did not know if it was a permanent move or not….

That story you can take it to the Bank and even though i tried not to disclose the shocking details narrated to me on why it crashed, the Comedian has called me out asking me to help him reveal the details and that he does not want to ”join issues’ with me.
Naij.com reached out to the comedian via a phone call and according to their website"
“The comedian said he does not want to join issues with Stella Dimokokorkus and that since she has all the details of his marriage breakup, she should tell it all. The comedian who is also an actor and movie producer said it is only unfortunate that Nigeria is a country where you cannot sue for damages.”

“Some blogs are, for the most part, the bringers of bad news… and it’s not entirely the bloggers fault, bad news gets higher ratings, travels faster and sells more than good news. The reality is that you will continue to hear negative information from many sources against anything that showcases your blessings and pride. Gossip is just a tool to distract people who have nothing better to do from feeling jealous of those few who are still remaining in the institution called ‘Celebrity Marriage’ . It lies in our will to decide whether to discard them into the waste bin or record them into our brains!. The question is… whose report will you believe?#Hisreportsaysiamfree #Hisreportsaysvictory #Hisreportsaysweareblessed#wecastandbind #prayfortheonesyoulove”
"The only reason I am responding to this Clap back is because it puts my job on the hot seat.
Let me state here Categorically that MY STORY IS TRUE and i take no Joy in reporting such News, just that what must be told must be told.

You laugh at others when their News is out but when it gets to yours it becomes a problem?Excuse me!
I choose to leave the dirty details of what happened for you to tell your fans on your social media handle. If you are embarrassed that the story has been posted, then i understand but your beautiful wife packed out of your house with a big truck and she took everything take-able and your house is currently under lock and key…unless she returns this night.

Instead of dragging or fighting dirty with you,I pray that God restores your Union and gives you the wisdom of Solomon to act right.

Some Blogs will not be bringers of bad news if you do not produce the bad news!
If you are talking about gossip, you produce and distribute it too so why call out your colleagues? Why have you been phone crashing with friends on the way forward?Didn’t your ”F” President friend do all he can to beg WIFEY to stay?

I will not help you launder your dirty story online,Don’t let the devil use you to call me out AY,you have Jesus’ number, use it!
Whose report to believe? God’s report!…The one that will deliver you from your chronicle of blah blah!
#I am out!" She Said.

What! Abacha performed more than Obasanjo, Yaradua, Jonathan in this area? (See)

What! Abacha performed more than Obasanjo, Yaradua, Jonathan in this area? (See)

A recent survey by Nairametrics has revealed that former military president of Nigeria, late General Sani Abacha, performed more than every other Nigerian ruler since 1999 with the capital expenditure against the recurrent expenditure.

The report, which was influenced by the recent anomalies discovered from Nigeria’s 2016 budget, showed that the military government fares better than the democratic leaders in this aspect of the budget, especially the Abacha government.

This is coming in spite of the massive loot recorded in his administration, and the revelations made by the foreign banks where he reportedly hid most of the wealth he amassed.

When civil servants and public officials in a democratic system of government fail to contribute to nation building despite their huge earnings, bureaucracy takes over and capital projects are most hit.
In fact, successive governments in the country have had to deal with this anomaly over the years as the recurrent expenditure is always way above capital expenditure.

But the Abacha government proved to be just ahead of the democratically elected leaders since 1999 as the chart below indicates.

According to the chart, the period between 1994 and 1999 showed that the capital expenditure as a percentage of government revenue outstrip recurrent was as high as 77%, however, when the democratically elected presidents came in, things took a negative turn.

On how Abacha was able to pull this stunt under his administration, which no leader after him has been able to, Nairametrics noted that Petroleum Trust Fund (PTF) managed by current Nigerian president, Muhammadu Buhari carried out a lot of capital projects and there was basically a parallel government at the time.

Meanwhile, as Nigerians continue to groan under the hardship of continuous oil price slump and the fall of naira against the dollar, reports emerged today that the Nigerian currency firmed up about 3 per cent against the dollar.
