FG bans the consumption of Ogogoro nationwide
The Federal government has officially banned the consumption of local
gin popularly known as Ogogoro, following reports of the deaths of quite
a number of people after consuming the alcoholic drink. Worthy of note
is the incident in Ondo state in which many people died after developing
a strange ailment after consuming the local gin contaminated with
methanol.
The DG of the National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control NAFDAC, Dr. Paul Orhii announced the ban today. He added that 38 persons have died from consuming contaminated local gin in Rivers state recently.
