 Tonight’s nominees were Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Manuel Neuer of which Thierry Henry opened the all important envelope and announced Cristiano Ronaldo as the winner.  

From the shortlist of Abby Wambach, Marta and Nadine Kessler, the award went to Nadine Kessler, from Wolfsburg.

Buhari was the military Head of state in 1983 and was ably assisted by General Tunde Idiagbon, having succeeded Alhaji Shehu Shagari, a democratically elected president, through a coup d’état.

It was in his regime that the War Against Indiscipline (WAI) was instituted. This indeed was a welcome development by all and sundry, making people to sit up and do the right thing.

In the light of this, he was a dictator, and would trample on anyone who contravenes his order. With his dictatorship, Nigerians became exasperated and yearned for freedom.

General Mohammadu Buhari

This was seen when Tai Solarin campaigned against the then military rule of which Buhari jailed him and denied him access to his asthma drugs.

One of the founding fathers of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and first former Vice President, Dr. Alex Ekwueme, was also jailed by Buhari based on allegation of fraud.

Other personalities jailed during his regime are Fela Kuti, Adekunle Ajasin, Beko Ransome Kuti, among others.

A renowned monarch of international repute, the Ooni of Ife, who visited Israel in 1984, was stopped from travelling abroad without Buhari’s permission. This was dictatorial!

This man called Buhari is seen among his followers as having the messianic power to bring CHANGEin Nigeria, but true Nigerians that have decided to stand for what is right, see him as an enemy of democracy.

He claims he is a democrat, but history cannot be distorted that he was a dictator who toppled a democratic government. He looks pious, but frankly, his agenda is to serve the conservative north and not the entire nation. His aim is to fully implement the Sharia Law.

Professor Wole Soyinka in his write up in 2011, “ Buhari: A Leopard Does Not Change Its Colour” said, “ Buhari enslaved the nation. He gloated and gloried in a master-slave relation to the millions of its inhabitants.

It is astonishing to find that the same former slaves, now free of their chains, should clamour to be ruled by one who not only turned their nation into a slave platation, but forbade them any discussion of their condition.”

The younger generation clamour for a change and are solidly behind President Goodluck Jonathan to consolidating his laudable achievements.
