A man was shot dead by police officers following a struggle on a Skid Row sidewalk that was recorded by a bystander with a cellphone. Los Angeles Police spokesman Sgt. Barry Montgomery said officers were responding to a robbery call when they struggled with the suspect.

He said officers first used a stun gun before shooting him. The man, whose identity was not released, was declared dead at the scene, police said. New report has it that the mother of the man identified as "Jihadi John" recognized immediately from his voice that her son was the alleged killer when he appeared in his first beheading video in August, Kuwaiti government officials told ABC News.

50 protesting JAMB candidates arrested

The Benue Police Command on Monday arrested 50 candidates of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) for violent protests and stoning of security officials.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Hyacinth Dagala, said the police intervened to prevent breakdown of law and order when the candidates started throwing stones at JAMB officials.
