Jackie Chan, Mike Tyson help kick off Shanghai Film Festival

Legendary actor Jackie Chan, Mike Tyson and Fan Bingbing walked the red carpet last night as a somewhat subdued Shanghai International Film Festival got underway in China’s bustling commercial capital. (Jackie Chan, 61, pictured on the red carpet yesterday at the festival in China).

Despite the rumour that he is dead...again, he is still very much alive. Jackie Chan posed on the red carpet during the opening ceremony of the Shanghai International Film Festival in Shanghai on June 13.

The festival offers cinema-goers the chance to see a number of American films that were never imported into theaters in China, which restricts the number of foreign films that can enter the market each year. Among some of the U.S. films screening are “Whiplash” and “Birdman.” Former boxer Mike Tyson is attending the festival not because he has an American film in the festival but because he has a guest part in the upcoming Chinese movie “Ip Man 3.” DreamWorks Animation chief Jeffrey Katzenberg also attended the event.

This year, the Shanghai fest will offer fans the chance to see all six films in the “Star Wars” series, a first for the mainland. “Jackie Chan Action Movie Week” is expected to draw a number of international filmmakers, including Renny Harlin and Brett Ratner for a series of forums and screenings that organizers said “will leverage the prestige of Jackie Chan in the world of action movies, highlight Chinese culture reflected in action movies, and pool together worldwide resources in support of the globalization of Chinese films and culture.”

Saraki, Dogara Will Be Welcomed With Open Hands In PDP- Jalo

The Deputy National Publicity Secretary of PDP, Abdullahi Jalo has said the new Senate President, Bukola Saraki and the newly emerged Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara are highly welcomed to PDP. According to Jalo PDP is a party which accommodates all regardless where the person in question is coming from. He also said in Saraki’s case, it will not be new because Saraki was a PDP member.

“Any politician is entitled to join any political party that he so desires to join. The PDP is for everyone. We don’t quarrel with anybody. We are still soliciting for more acceptability. The PDP is open to the Senate President, Bukola Saraki; Asiwaju Bola Tinubu (former Governor of Lagos State and national leader, APC); Bisi Akande (former Governor of Osun State and ex-National Chairman, APC, Chief) and any other persons in the ruling APC.

“The PDP is large enough to accommodate many people of diverse backgrounds. That is why we remain the largest party in Africa. We are never going to stop anybody from leaving or victimise them after they have left. The former Speaker, House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal (now Governor of Sokoto State) left and the party did not sanction him, unlike the APC that is threatening Saraki with sanctions,” Jalo said.

Bode George Explains Why PDP Voted For Saraki, Says Obanikoro Turning Lagos PDP Upside Down

PDP chieftain, Bode George in an interview with a Punch correspondent has explained why PDP voted for Saraki to emerge the senate president and also explained the crisis rocking PDP Lagos saying Obanikoro is the one behind it.

Speaking on Saraki, the reporter asked; When the election for the Senate President took place, the PDP had about 49 senators in the chamber while the APC had about eight. Why didn’t the PDP gun for the position of Senate President?

It is not good to get too greedy. We respect democracy a lot in the PDP. We helped to ensure democracy for 16 years through zoning. The PDP would have lost out if we tried to gun for the senate presidency. Remember that APC still has the larger number of senators. Thus, we decided to give it to Saraki, who we trust because he is our former member. Also, what we did ensured balance such that Tinubu’s boys would never have the upper hand. What happened was good for our democracy.

On PDP’s crisis; There is crisis within Lagos PDP as the party now has two chairmen. Don’t you think the 14 people who won elections on the party’s platform could defect due to this crisis?

There is no division in the party. It is just some minions misbehaving. There are laws in the party. The state chairman is a member of the National Executive Committee of the party. I didn’t state it: It is part of the party’s constitution that no member of the NEC can be removed by any lower strata except by the NEC.

Thus, I don’t know the constitution they used in removing the chairman. They are doing it for their selfish interest. Whatever Musiliu Obanikoro is doing in Lagos is just a nonsensical move. They should be dealt with by the disciplinary committee of the party and thrown out. I think the ultimate plan is to get some people to defect to the APC. Is Obanikoro a loyal member of the party? Party chairmen cannot be removed illegally. When we wanted our national chairman, Adamu Mu’azu, to go, we did not do it illegally. He resigned by himself.

TB Joshua's Birthday Celebration Unites Africans

On Friday 12th June 2015, thousands of Africans from more than 10 nations converged in South Africa to celebrate the birthday of controversial Nigerian Pastor T.B. Joshua.

The event, which was held at the Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand, South Africa, was dubbed ‘A Celebration Of Love’, a reference to Joshua’s popular slogan ‘let love lead’.
It comes just months after heated tensions between South Africa and several African countries over a spate of xenophobic violence against foreigners in the country.

Gospel artists VaShawn Mitchell, Loyiso Bala and opera singer Kimmy Skota entertained guests who
were also treated to a buffet-style meal.

Relatives of the 84 South Africans who lost their lives in the infamous collapse of a guesthouse at Joshua’s church last year were among the organisers of the event, coupled with survivors of the tragic incident.

“We know what happened to the building,” insisted Thembelihle Mamafa speaking on behalf of family members of the ‘martyrs of faith’ before cutting a huge cake in honour of the ‘prophet’.

Among those who paid tribute to Joshua was Chief Victor Mditshwa, a Director at the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO).

“Yesterday, we were talking about xenophobia but today, we are talking about happiness. That can only happen when there are men of God in this world like TB Joshua.”

He also made reference to an alleged prophecy given by Joshua about the end of the violence.“Tomorrow, they will never talk about xenophobia in South Africa - it is gone because the man of God prophesied and spoke.”

Popular South African ‘Bishop’ Stephen Zondo from the ‘Rivers Of Living Waters Ministries’ also spoke of the unity the event had fostered within Africa.

“Tonight, your birthday, has just united all of us,” he stated. “We had some tragedies and problems a few weeks ago but your birthday has done another miracle that the government and churches failed to do. Your birthday has brought us together!”

Representatives from the nations of Botswana, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi, Tanzania, Kenya, Swaziland, Lesotho, Mozambique and the Democratic Republic of Congo stood up to give birthday greetings to Joshua.

US Gospel artist VaShawn Mitchell, amidst his performance, thanked God for the Nigerian cleric’s life.

“I was able to go to Mexico City to the crusade,” he told the crowd, referring to Joshua’s crusade last month at the Aztec Stadium which had an estimated 150,000 in attendance. My life was changed through the ministry of Prophet Joshua. I saw healing, deliverance - people set free right before my very eyes.”

Several government officials, traditional leaders and media celebrities were present at the occasion. A biographical video clip of Joshua’s early life and ministry was shown.

The celebration was broadcast live on Christian television network Emmanuel TV, followed by a similar event in Mexico where Colombian Gospel artist David Angel performed.

Tottenham Hotspur striker "Harry Kane" Wanted By Red Devils

Manchester United may make a move for prolific Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane, according to reports.

According to Sky Sports , Manchester United are interested in bringing Harry Kane to Old Trafford in the summer.

Kane was the standout figure for Spurs this season, scoring 21 goals in the league and was crowned the PFA Young Player of the Year.

Sky Sports News HQ understand that the Red Devils have placed the Spurs star on their shopping list but the London club are unwilling to part ways with their £40m-rated striker.

The Manchester giants are looking at options to replace Radamel Falcao at the Theatre of Dreams with Kane now very much in the frame to be the subject of a huge summer offer.

The future of Robin Van Persie at the club is also in doubt, making the 21-year-old striker a prime target for Louis van Gaal’s summer revamp of his ageing squad.

Sky sources do however admit that “there certainly has been no bid at the moment between Old Trafford and White Hart Lane and no real negotiations at all”.

Kane is currently on duty with the England U21 side at the Euro championships.'

OAU Students Rob Adekunle Gold in His Hotel Room (See)

Reports have it that some students of Obafemi Awolowo University called ‘Awo Boys’ robbed Adekunle Gold after his performance in the school.

After the singer’s performance, the boys stormed his hotel room and asked him to give them part of his show money or they will treat his f**k up.

Adekunle gave them the money to avoid any issues.

Event promoter, Wale Applause took to Twitter to share the story. Wale said the boys were angry because the singer didn’t perform his hit track ‘Shade’ several times on stage.

Ronke Olayinka, 40, a petty trader and mother of 3 kids, excluding Abdullahi, recently used a Razor blade to cut the hands of Abdullahi at Pipeline Street, Oke-Odo, Lagos State. The 10-year-old primary 2 pupil said: “She inflicted blade cuts on my hands because I went to a party opposite our house to eat. There was no food at home.

I was hungry, so I assisted the people holding the party to carry chairs. I knew that if I assisted them, they would give me food. They gave me food. My sister went to report to my mummy. My mummy called me and started cutting my hands with a blade. She poured pepper into the wounds. She then gave me a hot pot of beans to carry to the kitchen with the bloodied hands.

One of our neighbors, a woman, saw me and took the pot from me. She went and told everyone in the compound. People saw my hands and started crying.” On her part, Ronke, who is being detained at Oke-Odo Police Station, said: “I’m a struggling widow. I’m a trader. I leave home in the morning and come back at night. Whenever I return, neighbors usually complain about Abdullahi; how he usually goes to different places to eat. .

Sometimes, he would go with his friends to a place called Agbele-Kale to swim. He’s just stubborn and doesn’t listen! He’s my brother’s son. I’ve been taking care of since he was a baby. He was behaving like someone who doesn’t have parents or like someone who has no home training. .
