Tension Rises As APC Refuses Audu Certificate Of Return

There was tension yesterday at the national secretariat of the  All Progressives Congress (APC) when the party denied the former governor of the state and the emerged governorship candidate of the  party, Prince Abubakar Audu, his certificate of return over awaiting petition.

Sources at the party secretariat told newsmen that some party leaders were initially not comfortable with Audu’s candidacy, saying he will be to big for them to control.

The former governor, who came to the party house with a large crowd was practically disgraced with his supporters by the self center part leaders.

A competent member of the National Working Committee of APC however, told our reporter in confidence that Audu was denied certificate of return and asked to come back the following day because Tuesday was actually the last day of grace given to other aspirants who may want to petition APC as regard the outcome of the primaries conducted by governor Nasir El-rufai.

Checkout The Details On How A Rwandan Pastor Converted All His Church Members To Islam

Checkout The Details On How A Rwandan Pastor Converted All His Church Members To Islam

On Tuesday, August 25, a Rwandan pastor, Salim Mikdad converted his church members to Islam. The conversion is listed the largest conversion of Christians to Islam after he successfully got all 480 members of his congregation to switch faiths.

One of the church members revealed that they all turned up for a church service only to be forced to convert to Islam by their pastor. Mikdad also got the church converted into a mosque during the conversion ceremony. It is reported that an Islamic cleric had preached to Pastor Mikdad and succeeded in converting him to Islam.

According to Africa Metro, Rwanda is a predominantly Christian country but of late, has seen a gradual rise in its Muslim population. About 56.9% of Rwandans are Roman Catholic, 26% are Protestant, 11.1% are Seventh day Adventist and only 4.6% are Muslim, most of them being Sunni.

Islam started growing in Rwanda after the country’s 1994 genocide as both Catholic and Protestant churches helped to make the killing of about 800,000 people possible by giving moral sanction to the murders. Churches have longed played ethnic politics themselves, favouring the Tutsi during the colonial period then switching allegiance to the Hutu after 1959, sending a message that ethnic discrimination was consistent with church teaching.

37- year old man imprisoned for setting pregnant lover on fire

37- year old man imprisoned for setting pregnant lover on fire

On Monday, a 37-year-old bar operator who was identified as Lucky Esonahae was arraigned on one count bordering on causing bodily harm by setting his pregnant lover on fire.

The prosecuting officer, Sergeant Ganiyu Yahya, told the court that the incident took place  at Uwelu Quartres in Benin, and was reported by the victim, Stella Isaac, on July 6, the same day it occurred.
Yahya said Esonahae poured kerosene on Stella, who was said to be 7 months pregnant, lit a match and set her on fire.

He said that the victim was later rescued by one of her sons and her neighbours, who forced the door of her room open, as she had been locked in.
He said the victim, who was later rushed to the Central Hospital, where she received treatment sustained burns on her hands and forehead.

The police prosecutor also told the court that Esonahae had earlier accused the pregnant woman of infidelity for allegedly returning at about 6pm from her ante-natal care and had threatened to kill her, before she ran to her sister’s residence.
The charge read:
“That you, Lucky Esonahae, on July 6, 2015, at Uwelu Quartres, Benin, in the Egor Magisterial District, did cause grievous harm to one Stella Isaac, by setting her on fire with kerosene, which cause her bodily harm and, thereby, committed an offence punishable under Section 355(B) of the Criminal Code Cap 48, Vol. II, Law of the defunct Bendel State of Nigeria, 1976, as applicable to Edo State.”
The accused pleaded guilty to the offence and begged for leniency.
But the presiding magistrate, Igho Braimoh, said the court would not be lenient, adding, “for a 37-year-old man to set a lover on fire leaves much to be desired.”
She, therefore, sentenced him to 5 years in prison with hard labour.
