Iranian president calls Buhari over killing of Shiites

The President of Iranian, Hassan Rouhani, on Tuesday called President Muhammadu Buhari over the clash between the Nigeria Army and the Islamic Movement of Nigeria, whose members are pro-Iranian Shiites, the Islamic News Agency reported.

Rouhani was said to have enquired about the care being provided for those injured in the clash and called on the Nigerian government to “relieve the entire bereaved families and injured victims of that disaster and to issue strict orders to prevent the occurrence of any further unrests”.

The Iranian President, who accused a group of countries of creating discord among Muslims, said, “The Islamic world is more than ever before in need to peace and peaceful resolving of its existing problems.”
He called on Buhari to set up a committee to look into the clash, adding that Iran was ready to provide medical and relief teams to aid the victims.

Buhari was quoted as saying that the Nigerian government was determined to find the exact cause of the clash and react accordingly to it.

The president could not be immediately reached for comment.
The clash on Saturday and Sunday between the army and the movement was said to have been premeditated by members of the sect, who allegedly attacked the convoy of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai.

The army said Buratai was attacked on his way to attend the passing-out parade of the solders at the 73 Regular Recruitment of the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Army Depot, Zaria.
Sayyid, one of El-Zakzaky’s sons; the sect’s deputy leader, Sheikh Turi Mohammed, and the group’s spokesman, Ibrahim Musa were among those killed later on Sunday.

The General Officer Commanding 1 Mechanized Division of the Nigeria Army, Kaduna, Maj-Gen. Adeniyi Oyebade, had on Monday, while defending the army’s action, however, said El-Zakzaky was unhurt and that the sect leader and his wife were in protective custody.

Following the clash and the arrest of the sect’s leader, Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, members of the group have staged protests in Kano, Kaduna and Bauchi States.
The protest had led to tension in Kaduna State on Tuesday with members of the sect clashing with police in the Tudun Wada area of the state capital, Kaduna.

Iranian protesters had also gathered in front of the Nigerian embassy in Tehran and in front of the United Nations office in Mashhad on Tuesday to protest killings of members of the group by the Nigerian army.
The FARS News Agency, an Iranian news agency, has accused global human rights bodies of keeping mum days after the clash and turning “a blind eye to the horrendous crimes committed by the Nigerian regime in the weekend”.

“The two players that were part of the Under-23 team that won the Africa Under-23 championship in Senegal, were given till weekend to join the team.

Thierry Henry: What Arsenal need to do to win the Premier League

THEIRRY HENRY believes if Arsenal sign another defensive midfielder in January they can win the Premier League.

The Gunners currently sit second in the table following their 2-0 win against Aston Villa on Sunday.
But Arsene Wenger's squad are currently in the midst of an injury crisis that could derail their title hopes, with key midfielders Francis Coquelin, Santi Cazorla and Jack Wilshere all sidelined.

And Arsenal legend Henry wants to see another holding player signed in January to provide cover for Mathieu Flamini and give the Gunners a chance of winning their first title since 2004.

"It’s a hard one, because for me right now I think Arsenal’s squad is good enough to win the league," Henry said at a Q&A session which took place at Facebook in London.
"What we need is some backup to make sure we have a guy that can hold the fort if Flamini gets injured.
"The position would be holding midfielder for me, and with Arsenal they are at the top and the amount of injuries they’ve had is not normal.

"When those guys come back they can be your new signings. But we keep saying that! I will have answered that [question of who they should sign] properly if the whole team was there, but the boss never has everyone available."

Presidency denies claims that Buhari receivied $300,000.00 from Sambo Dasuki

Press statement from the Presidency...they admit the president collected one armoured SUV and one untreated SUV but deny he received three hundred thousand dollars. Read below...
Our attention has been drawn to reports making the rounds, especially on internet-based media, that President Muhammadu Buhari received $300,000.00 and up to five armoured SUVs from the Office of the National Security Adviser in the aftermath of the attack on his convoy in Kaduna last year. We unequivocally deny that President Buhari received $300,000.00 or any monetary compensation whatsoever from the Jonathan Presidency or any of its officials, in the aftermath of that attack, or at any other time since then.
While it is true that one armoured SUV and one untreated SUV were sent to the President in the aftermath of the attack, the vehicles were in keeping with his entitlements as a former Head of State under the Remuneration of Former Presidents and Heads of State (And other Ancillary Matters) Decree of 1999. Section 3, Sub Section 1 of that Decree provides that three vehicles will be provided for former heads of state and replaced every four years. There was therefore nothing untoward, illegal or tending to corruption in former Head of State Buhari and Presidential aspirant, as he then was, receiving vehicles, to which he was statutorily entitled , from the Federal Government of Nigeria. President Buhari had in keeping with his austere, spartan and frugal disposition shunned most of his entitlements as a former Head of State, but was prevailed upon by his supporters to accept the two vehicles for his personal safety in the aftermath of the dastardly attempt to assassinate him. It is preposterous to think that the President will allow his acclaimed reputation of honesty and incorruptibility to be tarnished by accepting a questionable monetary compensation from a discredited regime.

'I did not collect N100m from Dasuki' - Peter Odili

Rivers State former governor, Peter Odili has released a statement denying claims that he received N100 million from the embattled former National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd) through former minister of state, finance, Bashir Yuguda. Odili who is a chieftain of the former ruling party, said the only money he collected was from PDP which was released by for the 2015 elections contact and mobilisation committees of the party.
“My attention has been drawn to some publications where a former Minister of State (Finance), Mr Bashir Yuguda was quoted to have said that he allegedly gave me the sum of N100 million, out of the money he purportedly collected from the former National Security Adviser,” he said in a statement Tuesday.
"I decided to personally sign this rebuttal because over the years, I had ignored various spurious and patently false reports against me because I know that at the fullness of time, the truth would surely prevail. I categorically state with all sense of responsibility that I have never had any dealings, private or business or official, with the former National Security Adviser, so the issue of allegedly collecting N100 million from either the former NSA or Mr Yuguda does not arise,” he stated Odili went further to state that "The party, not the former NSA or Yuguda gave the South -South Committee through me, the sum of N100 million along with other zonal Chairmen, in the house of the National Chairman, Dr. Adamu Muazu, for the assignment. This amount was subsequently disbursed to the relevant party members from the zone for the assignment given by the party. I have the appointment letter and terms of reference, minutes of all the meetings, signatures of all the members and the report of the zonal committee, which was duly submitted to the Party Leader. I reiterate for the purpose of emphasis, that I had no dealings with the former NSA, neither did I collect any money from Yuguda. I challenge anyone who has any contrary evidence to produce it,”.
