 The Republican front-runner on Monday released a statement calling for the U.S. to refuse entry of foreign Muslims. His proposal was met with widespread criticism, including from several candidates in his own party, and now White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest says suc a statement disqualifies him from serving as the President of the United States Of America.

“The fact is what Donald Trump said yesterday disqualifies him from serving as president,” Josh Earnest said in Tuesday’s press briefing. “For Republican candidates for president to stand by their pledge to support Mr. Trump, that in and of itself is disqualifying,” Earnest said.

“The question now is about the rest of the Republican Party and whether or not they’re going to be dragged into the dustbin of history with him. And right now the current trajectory is not very good. The Trump campaign for months now has had a dustbin of history-like quality to it,” Earnest said.
Secretary of State John Kerry also rebuked Trump’s comments.

“I would simply say that nondiscrimination and equal treatment are a pillar of not just American values but of our immigration and our admission policies in this country and the State Department remains totally committed to treating all religions with respect and without discrimination,” Kerry said during a press briefing in Paris. 

He added, “As I travel around the world, it is clear to me and how both our friends and our adversaries watch and listen to the discourse in the U.S., and I believe that comments such as those that we just heard are not constructive – and I would say that is putting it diplomatically.”

Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo has decried the low conviction rate in high profile corruption cases in Nigeria, saying that since the inception of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in 2002, only eight high profile cases have been successfully concluded despite widespread corruption in the country.

Osinbajo said this at a workshop on sections 306 & 396 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) 2015 and Delay of Corruption Cases, organised by the Centre for Socio-Legal Studies (CSLS) and the Presidential Committee on Corruption (PAAC) in Abuja yesterday December 9th. Osinbajo was represented by the Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee against Corruption, Prof. Itse Sagay (SAN).

He said of the eight cases that have been concluded, one was overturned by the Supreme Court on technical grounds, which implies that only seven major convictions have been secured after trial in 13 years.

“We must do more. This is not a campaign for conviction at all cost in high profile cases, but a campaign that the law must be allowed to follow its course and high or low profile corruption cases must be concluded within the time allotted by law,” he said.

Late Mrs Bimbo Odukoya died in the ill-fated Sosoliso crash on December 10th 2005. Her husband, Pastor Taiwo of the Fountain of Life Bible Church, took to his Instagram page to remember her. Here is what he wrote;

"It is exactly ten years since the grim incident that led to the passing of my late wife, ‘Bimbo Odukoya. Yet, as I look through the years, I am awash with feelings of gratitude. God, in His character, has been faithful. I am particularly grateful for the life that ‘Bimbo lived and the legacies she left behind.
It is incredible that ten years after her passing, her teachings continue to impact families, and the initiatives she drove while with us, are still here, touching the nations. Indeed, only God could have chosen an eager teenage girl and built her into a woman of international repute, to His glory alone. Only God could have given such a unique assignment and given the grace to run with it. And only God could have determined when the curtains were drawn. If there is therefore any lesson we must consciously strive to remember, it is that there is a divine calling and assignment on every life God created. As we celebrate ‘Bimbo today, let us stop to ask ourselves: ‘am I truly in the place of my assignment? am I living the life God intended?’ This should drive your life’s philosophy as it did hers. The world will celebrate your influence in Jesus name". May her soul continue to rest in peace Amen.
