Regional Strategic Analysis and Knowledge Support System project has released its Annual Trends and Outlook Report (ATOR), The Punch reports.

The ATOR is a programme facilitated by the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI).
According to the research, almost all African countries including Nigeria will transform to middle-income nations within 15 years.

Annual Trends and Outlook Report also adds that only one African country would remain low-income by 2050.

The report says: “As the second-fastest growing region in the world, Africa has enjoyed robust economic growth in recent years. However, that progress has not been enough to make up for the lost decades of economic stagnation that preceded the recent recovery. And secondly, the benefits of this growth have not trickled down to the wider population. Today, too many people experience poverty and food scarcity.”

The experts note that Nigeria and other African countries still faced major challenges in terms of reducing poverty and eliminating hunger and malnutrition.

Ousmane Badiane, the International Food Policy Research Institute director for Africa, said that report shows that policymakers need to continue to refine policies, improve institutions and increase investments to sustain and accelerate the pace of growth.

Badiane explained: “As well as its inclusivity or broadness -and the outcomes of their decisions can be the difference between persistent poverty and future shared prosperity for many of Africa’s most vulnerable populations”.

According to the report, Africa south of the Sahara was projected to experience more sustained economic growth in Gross Domestic Product per capita between now and 2030 and 2050.

The report states: “By 2050, climate change will result in a 25 per cent increase in cereal prices compared with a no-climate change scenario. Trends that are likely to influence the trajectory of African economies include more volatile food and energy prices; rapid urbanisation, increasing incomes, and the rise of a middle class; rapid increase in a young population entering the labour force; greater climate variability; and agriculture as the largest source of employment.African diets are changing in response to rapid urbanisation and the rise of a middle class.

Fifty per cent of Africa’s population is projected to live in urban areas by 2020. Processed food now represents a significant share of food purchases, even for the rural poor. Industrialisation in Africa has been weak, and has contributed little to Africa’s recent growth. A new industrial strategy needs to focus on investing in infrastructure, especially energy, transport, and water supply”.

New Party Likely To Emerge From PDP – Senator Balogun

New Party Likely To Emerge From PDP – Senator Balogun

Sen. Lekan Balogun, a PDP stalwart and Osi Olubadan of Ibadan, has predicted that a new party would emerge from the PDP ahead of the 2019 general elections.

Balogun disclosed this on Thursday during the monthly Guest Forum of Oodua Newspapers held at Ijikodo, Ibadan.

“I foresee a new party emerging out of the fall of PDP from power after the 2015 elections and not that the All Progressives Congress has taken over.

“Some members of the party have gotten to a point of no return and I think they could break away,” he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the PDP, which came to power in 1999, ruled the country for 16 years.

Balogun said that the party failed in its re-election bid because its leadership refused to listen to the advice of elders.

The former lawmaker, who took a cursory look at the collapse of the PDP in Oyo State, warned APC not to make the same mistake.

“The fall of PDP in Oyo State and at the federal level is dialectic. “Former President Goodluck Jonathan was good, but some of his ministers and party men did not help matters,” he said.

Balogun, who claimed to have sent several text messages to PDP leaders in Abuja advising them without any response, said he predicted what happened to the party.

He said that the extent of the damage to the party’s fortunes was more obvious after the elections.

Balogun also said Nigerians should be patient with President Muhammadu Buhari over allegations of lopsided appointments.

“Appointments are made based on principles of intellect, character and national spread. “President Buhari is a very disciplined leader and I know he would address the issue in subsequent appointments,” he said.

Pastor Chris Okotie Wants To Ruin My Marriage-- Emeka Ike (Read Details)

Pastor Chris Okotie Wants To Ruin My Marriage-- Emeka Ike (Read Details)

Nollywood star actor, Emeka Ike, is accusing the founder and head pastor of Household of God Church, Pastor Chris Okotie, of being behind the plot to destroy his marriage.

Emeka Ike made the revelation in a statement where he says he was crying out because of the “desperate desperation” of Okotie to destroy his family.

The feud between the actor and his wife, Suzanne, has gone way past the point of repair, with the wife filing a divorce suit before a Customary Court in Lagos. Suzanne is seeking dissolution of her 12-year-old marriage over alleged assault from her husband.

Emeka Ike said he was compelled to alert the whole world of the “devil” behind the plot to destroy his home, after all efforts to beg his wife to drop the divorce bid failed.

We can continue to talk on and on about the statement, but we would rather you read it for yourself. See Emeka Ike's statement after the jump

According to the statement, Emeka Ike said;
I want people to look into this issue critically. I’ve never beaten this woman in my life. When she ran out of home, I called my pastor and they took us for counselling. For one week, I was begging her every day; I would go home alone and she would go home alone as well.
At a point, pastor asked us to write five things we like and dislike about each other. The pastor said that maybe we could work it out. I wrote mine, she wrote hers and she never said there that I used to beat her. I still have that document with me. She gave me what she wrote and I gave her what I wrote. If I used to beat her, she could not have left it out from that then. Any man that beats a woman is a coward. I know that someone somewhere must have done something to her. How can I beat a woman I adore so much? I love my family and this is very unfortunate. Her children have been begging her to come home, and she has refused.
I am pretty sure my wife is acting confused; she is acting as if she is under a spell, which is psychological and then she is acting under blackmail.
There was a time I accused her of bringing men to my house. I mean, which woman will wake her husband up in the middle of the night and said to him, share your property I want to get my share now from what you have? Tell me, which woman will do that if not acting under a spell?
There was a time I travelled and she closed down my school and sent all the students away. So, there is a lot to it, other than the allegation of battery against me and I want the whole world to know. My name is precious to me and I don’t want anything to drag it in the mud.
Pastor Chris Okotie just absolved my wife into his church without making any effort to get in touch with me. If as a pastor, your church member is having issue with her husband, and you failed to do anything to resolve it, what kind of pastor are you? When I called him, he refused to pick my call. He also failed to react to a text message I sent to him. Is that a man of God? Even, if you have a police case, they will make effort to hear from you before taking a position, not to talk of the church.
When we went to court, I told my wife that I’m interested in amicable settlement of the matter, and that I still want her back. But she refused. Even, if you don’t want me, what of your children, I asked her and she still would not listen to me. I want the whole world to know because there is a lot of misinformation out there. The lawyer which Okotie hired for my wife is also frustrating every attempt I make to resolve the matter peacefully.
