Three Dead Bodies Found Buried Under Church Foundation In Enugu

There was outrage yesterday in Enugu State following the discovery of dead bodies buried in shallow graves along the Enugu Port-Harcourt Express Road.

The incident, which occurred on Monday evening at the Ugwuaji Area of the State has kept residents in tears. The corpses were buried inside the foundation of the building suspected to be a church under construction and totally covered with concrete.

It was gathered that construction of the building whose owner could not be immediately ascertained, commenced recently and was at the foundation level before the gory discovery Monday.

Unconfirmed sources said one of the workers at the site, who heard about the burial of the deceased inside the foundation before it was concretized, alerted security operatives about the evil act. Policemen were said to have after receiving the tip-off mobilized some labourers who dug the foundation open and discovered the corpses.

The discovery attracted several passersby and motorists plying the road to the scene. They expressed shock at the discovery and called on security agents to do everything possible to fish out the perpetrators of the act, who they suspected could be ritualists.

Some residents of the neighbourhood alleged that the building believed to be a proposed place of worship, belonged to a ritualist who disguised to be a man of God. The State Police spokesman, Mr Ebere Amaraizu, who confirmed the report said the corpses were recovered from the site following a tip-off.

“On information, three decomposing bodies were discovered and full scale investigations have commenced with a view to unmasking circumstances surrounding the incident,” he said.

Meanwhile, fear has gripped residents of Ugwuaji as security operatives were said to have swung into action to crackdown on the ritualist and his cohorts who killed and buried the deceased persons. One of those who were at the scene described the act as “wicked and the most inhuman action I have seen in my entire life.”

N50m ransom needed to release kidnapped Deeper Life pastor

N50m ransom needed to release kidnapped Deeper Life pastor

One of the pastors of Deeper Christian Life Ministry, DCLM, Pastor David Onubedo resident in Kebbi State was on Monday evening kidnapped in Okene, Kogi State and whisked away to an unknown destination.

Onubedo, a high ranking pastor of the DCLM, was returning from the church’s Bible Study presided over by the General Superintendent of the church, Pastor William Kumuyi, and transmitted to all Deeper Life Bible Church outlets nationwide, around 9pm on Monday when he was kidnapped, according to a source.

A close family source quoted Onubedo’s wife as saying that the kidnappers had established contact with her and were demanding for N50 million ransom as at Tuesday morning before they could release him.
It was gathered that the kidnappers called earlier on Tuesday and told the distraught wife that she had to look for N50 million before her husband could regain his freedom.

Key leaders in Deeper Life confirmed the kidnap of Onubedo, but preferred not to be quoted as they are not authorised to comment on the matter, saying that it was the Church Secretary, Pastor Jerry Asemota who could comment.

There is apprehension in Kebbi State where he is the overall Deeper Life leader and in Kogi State, his hometown where he had also acted as the State Overseer at a point.

A close family source of the overseer in Kebbi State also confirmed that their pastor had been kidnapped by gunmen and that his whereabouts had not been ascertained.
Text messages are being circulated to Deeper Life members nationwide to embark on intensive prayers so that the kidnappers could release their leader.

The text message read: Please, begin to pray and send prayer request to others for the release of Pastor Onubedo, a state overseer in Deeper Life Ministry who was reportedly kidnapped at his residence immediately after the Bible Study tonight (Monday).

“The pastor wants us to immediately enter prayer closets both as individuals, families and in groups for his immediate and safe release…key in quick.”

Onubedo was a Group Pastor in Shogunle Group Deeper Life Bible Church where he was in charge of about six churches several years ago before he was promoted by Kumuyi to become the State Overseer of Niger State where he was also in charge of all Deeper Life Churches in the State.

Kumuyi later transferred him to Kogi State as the State Overseer and later to Sokoto State as the State Overseer.

He was again redeployed to Kebbi State where he is currently serving as the State Overseer before his kidnap.

Nigeria Customs sets N1trn revenue target for 2016

The Comptroller-General of Customs, retired Col. Hameed Ali, said that the Nigeria Customs Service had set N1 trillion revenue target for itself in 2016.

Ali announced this to newsmen at the sideline of the celebration of International Customs Day (ICD) on Tuesday in Abuja.
He said that the service had not received 2016 revenue target from the Budget Office of the Federation, adding that Nigeria Customs had, however, set the target for 2016.

“We (customs) have not received the 2016 revenue target from the budget office yet but we normally set a target for ourselves and we are looking at the N1 trillion for 2016.
“We hope and are working to block all leakages and making sure that our system works perfectly and hopefully the polices of government will also be in our favour; we hope to hit N1 trillion in 2016,’’ Ali said.
On asset declaration by customs personnel, Ali said, “I believe that all my officers are complying.”

According to him, the deployment of e-customs has boosted revenue collection and its role of providing connectivity in the nation’s borders.

He said that Nigeria customs was jointing its global counterpart community to celebrate the day set aside by the world body to appreciate customs men and women who had worked for the economic and security well-being of the nation.

“The deployment of e-customs has boosted customs’ role of providing connectivity between nations divided by artificial borders.
“Collection of revenue and interception of harmful imports have been made easier with the help of technology.

“In line with the change mantra of the present government, let me remind all operatives and stakeholders alike not to abuse the process and corrupt the system.

“Any act calculated to distort and compromise the integrity of e-customs will not be tolerated and will be met with appropriate sanctions,’’ he added.
Ali said that in the area of using technology for collaboration and efficiency, NCS was always playing the leading role.

According to him, the Nigeria Integrated Customs Information System (NICIS), Nigeria Trade Hub and the Pre-Arrival Assessment Report (PAAR) are electronic platforms for effective collaborations and ease of doing business in Nigeria.

Ali said that compliant stakeholders and operatives who had distinguished themselves in the deployment and transparent use of e-customs to enhance revenue and national security would be encouraged and rewarded.

The Secretary General, World Customs Organisation (WCO), Mr Kunio Mikuriya, said that to support the WCO members in their efforts to further adopt digital customs, the WCO had developed an extensive portfolio of instruments and applications.

The Secretary-General was represented by the Deputy Comptroller General, Strategic Research and policy, Paul Ukaigwe.

Mikuriya said customs administrations globally were encouraged to actively showcase and promote the use of Information Communications Technology (ICT) to collect and safeguard customs duties, flow of goods and secure cross border trade from crime.

“Part of our work in these months to come will be to monitor and communicate best practice in topics as diverse as change management, human resource policies and information management.
“Over the course of 2016, all WCO members are to promote and share information on how to they are adapting to the digital environment and how they are leveraging the potential of IT.

They will also promote how to implement and use digital technologies to advance and achieve their objectives and respond to the expectations of traders, transport and logistics operators.

Roman Abramovich reportedly gave Russia president Vladimir Putin £25million yacht (See photos)

Russian businessman, investor, politician and owner of Chelsea football club, Roman Abramovich gave a yacht worth £25 million to Russian president Vladmir Putin, new reports claim. Dmitry Skarga, a former head of Russia’s state shipping company, Sovcomflot, said the boat was a gift from Abramovich, who transferred it to the president via an intermediary associate.

The duo have long been friends but Putin's critics feel he has unknown energy business deals with the Chelsea owner.
“It's a fact that Mr Abramovich, through his employee transferred a yacht to Mr Putin,” Mr Skarga told Panorama. Mr Skarga also alleged that the yacht is run and maintained with state funds, even though it is Mr Putin’s personal property.
The allegations come as a top American official openly accused Mr Putin of corruption and direct embezzlement of state funds.
There has been a lot of speculation about Putin's actual wealth value with Bill Browder, a hedge fund manager and vocal critic of Mr Putin, claiming that the Russian president is worth $200 billion, a sum that would make him by far the richest man in the world. But Putin’s spokesman has called the allegations “complete trash.” Mr Abramovich’s lawyers called the claims about the yacht “unsubstantiated” and little more than a “rehash of speculation and rumours”.

Home based Super Eagles crash out of CHAN tournament

The home based Super Eagles of Nigeria this afternoon crashed out of the African Cup of Nations tournament for home based players after playing out a 0-1 loss to the Syli Nationale of Guinea.
This was Sunday Oliseh's first major test as the Super Eagles coach. While Nigeria needed just a point to qualify through to the knockout stages of the tournament, Guinea needed the full three points and got a win over the Super Eagles.

Sunday Oliseh started Sunshine Stars attacker Tunde Adeniji in place of top scorer Chikatara but the team's lacklustre display in front of goal meant the technical crew had to rue that decision.
To show how badly the Super Eagles fared against the Syli Nationale, it took over twenty minutes before the team could muster a shot. Guinea took the lead after Daouda Camara eased past Nigeria's defence to lay an assist for Ibrahim Sankhon who slotted into the net.

Coach Sunday Oliseh was forced to make an early substitution in the second half with the introduction of the team's top goalscorer Chisom Chikatara who was unfit to start the match. Chikatara replaced Paul Onobi.
Despite all the Super Eagles did in the second half they couldn't break through the Guinean defence and Oliseh's men had to settle for third place after getting 4points from three games.

Coach @SundayOOliseh apologized to Nigerians after the match on twitter 'We apologize to Nigerians for this loss, we never planned to exit the tournament this early. The boys gave their best.'
