Former Bayern Munich Boss Uli Hoeness Released From Prison

Uli Hoeness, the disgraced former president of Germany's top soccer team, Bayern Munich, was released from prison on Monday morning. The 64-year-old served 21 months of his three and a half year sentence for tax evasion.

Before the scandal broke that Hoeness had cheated the authorities of 28.5 million euros ($31.5 million), he was known as the major force behind Bayern's meteoric rise in prominence within world soccer. Hoeness had succeeded German soccer legend Franz Beckenbauer in 2009 after a 30-year mentorship with the legendary defender.

"It's not over!" the self-made son of a butcher said before starting his sentence in March 2014. Never far from the club he helped mould, when his day release for good behavior came in January 2015, Hoeness was right back to work for Bayern, helping the team's youth academy.

Before becoming president, Hoeness played for the Munich team himself, which won the European Cup three times from 1974-76. Part of the national team that took home the World Cup in 1974, Hoeness was forced to retire at the age of 27 and became the youngest ever manager of Bayern.

The ex-president has said he will announce his future plans on July 1, the same day Carlo Ancelotti is set to replace Pep Guardiola as Bayern's coach.

Abduction: Ese Oruru says she wants to remain in Kano with her lover

Premium Times reported that Ese Oruru, who was allegedly kidnapped from Bayelsa to Kano, said she was not interested in reuniting with her family and denied being abducted from her home in Bayelsa State. In an exclusive audio recording obtained by the online publication today, the girl also said she eloped with her lover to Kano in order to convert to Islam.

“My name is Aisha Chuwas. I am 17-year-old. I came here to be a Muslim and I will stay here.”

Human rights lawyer, Huwaila Mohammed, who was given access to the girl at the Zonal Police Headquarters in Kano, said upon interrogation, she understood the girl was never forced to convert to Islam. She also had access to Miss Oruru’s lover and established that he is just 18 years old, 'not anywhere above 20'.

“I was surprised when I saw a very small boy. He is just 18-year old. I was enraged thinking that it was an old man involved in the saga. From the way I see it, they eloped not because of religion but love,” she said. Hmm, true love sha!

With the current oil price, we have to proritize and downsize our promises- Lai Mohammed

The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, has said that with the current oil price at $30 per barrel, the APC-led government will have to downsize or prioritize on the promises it made during the election campaigns. He said this in an interview on Channels TV

His words

"When you campaign, you say you’ll do A, B, C, but when you win elections, you’ll priotize. We were elected for a four-year period, not for one year. Things, we hope, will not be bad all through these four years.
We are still faithful to those promises, but as you have rightly said, when we were campaigning, the price of crude was $100 a barrel. Today, its $30 a barrel, so definitely, we would have to downsize some of the things we intended to do, or prioritize them but this does not mean abandoning those promises.”

Witches, Wizards orchestrated Rev. King’s death sentence - Church members allege

Following the death sentence by the Supreme court last week Friday, members of Christian Praying Assembly (CPA) have alleged that the apex's court final decision on the murder charges against him was the handiwork of witches and wizards.

According to the Nation, during the first church service after the Supreme Court decision at the Lagos headquarters of the church yesterday February 28th, one of the church Pastors, Ifeanyi King, who preached said

“Our G.O. (General Overseer) the most holiness, Rev King, is coming back. He said he would come back and we believe the words of his mouth. We believe his report that he is coming back. Everything happening now we know is the handiwork of witches and wizard. Soon a new story will emerge. Whether people realise it or not, everybody now knows his holiness, our G.O. Rev King. The front pages of newspapers are flooded with his name. People are yearning to read about him in the social media. I can confirm to you that by all these, a lot of people have become endeared to him. Our Daddy G.O. shall live forever for us in Jesus name".

They sang hymns and danced to mark Reverend King's birthday whose death sentence was confirmed on his birthday which was last Friday February 26.

Doyin Okupe replies Osinbajo on his statement that GEJ didn't build a single road

Former spokesperson to the immediate past President, Doyin Okupe, took to his Facebook page to react to the statement made by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, on Friday Feb 26th at the Fountain of Life Church in Ilupeju, Lagos, that the Federal government in the last 10 years did not construct a single road. This is perhaps one of the most difficult posts I have made to date. Prof Yemi Osinbajo and I have a few things in common. He is a professional in politics like me. He is a practising Christian and a revered Pastor. I am a practising christian and an aspiring Evangelist. We both are alumni of Igbobi college, Yaba. Lagos. His younger brother and mine were classmates at Igbobi and are both pastors of the fountain of life church, Ilupeju, where I became grounded in Christianity under the mentorship of the celebrated and revered man of God, Pastor Taiwo Odukoya. It was in this church and before a body of pastors undergoing a spiritual retreat that the Vice President went and said " that the federal government in the last 10 years have not constructed a single new road " This statement is a lie and an absolute falsehood. Many people have said so. But this is not why I am writing this. My concern is the erroneous assumption that just because the VP is a Christian therefore every christian is APC. This why the VP's statement is unfortunate in that it was a wrong statement made in a wrong place(church) and before a wrong audience. The church must also be sensitive and mindful of the danger in bringing politics into the church. For Prof Osinbajo, if only he remembered the Igbobi college motto " omnes unum in domino" meaning " all are one in the Lord" he would not have committed such a blunder. Our God is God of APC,PDP,Labour etc . Having said this the VP is someone I hold in very high esteem and he knows this. I am also proud of his role in this administration".

President Buhari says he would rather invest in agriculture than give N5k to unemployed Nigerians

The Nigerian President said during a meeting in Saudi Arabia, that he had a different opinion on the N5000 stipend his party promised to give to unemployed Nigerians when they (APC) come into power.

Buhari said he would rather use the N5000 to repair the infrastructures in schools and empower mining and agriculture than to give the money to people who don't work. E wo!

“This largesse of N5,000 for the unemployed, I have got a slightly different priority. I would rather do the infrastructure for the school that request them and empower agriculture, mining so that every able bodied person can go and get work instead of giving 5,000, N5,000 to those who don’t work.”

President Buhari ends lesser hajj, heads for Qatar

President Buhari ended his participation at the Lesser hajj ‎today February 27th and has left Saudi Arabia for Qatar where he and his delegation will be attending the meeting of Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC). Hopefully, he is expected back to the country on Monday February 29.

Buhari has plans to Islamise Nigeria - Fayose

The audacious Ekiti state governor, Ayo Fayose, is at it again! This time, he has accused President Buhari of planning to Islamize Nigeria. According to Vanguard, the governor made the allegation during the PDP Rivers state thanksgiving service for the state governor, Nyesom Wike, whose election was upheld by the Supreme court on January 27th. Fayose reportedly told the gathering he had a secret to reveal about the present administration. When asked to share the secret, this is what he said;

“They have started subtle moves to make Nigeria an Islamic nation, but God will stop them. This was done in 1984, it failed, it would fail again.”he said He added that he was not afraid of anyone and that his name is Peter whcih means Th Rock. “I am not far away, I am in Ekiti. I am Ayo Fayose, Peter the rock, if you hit me you will be in trouble. If I hit you, you will be in trouble.”. To substantiate his allegation about Buhari's plan to Islamize Nigeria, Fayose said: “Why did five of them go to Saudi Arabia to wait for our man there (referring to President Buhari and state governors), if they don’t have agenda. The agenda is coming small small, but we will resist it. Nigeria is a free nation where we proclaim the name of Jesus Christ freely, and we believe in Allah for those who are muslims. This nation will not be taken for an Islamic nation.”

Oliseh admits he was not paid N20million before resignation, threatens to sue NFF

Erstwhile Super Eagles Coach, Sunday Oliseh has threatened to sue his former employers, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) over defamation surrounding the controversial ₦20 million for salaries and rent for his time as the national team head Coach.

Oliseh who confirmed his resignation was officially communicated 11:01pm on Thursday stressed that neither him nor his Assistant; Jean Francois Losciuto, had received any payments.

Speaking with footballlive.ng, the former Super Eagles captain berated the manner the NFF handled the news suggesting to the public that he resigned upon receiving ‘his pay for job done.’

Oliseh: NFF offered Herve Renard $100,000 a month salary to take over Super Eagles job - Babangida

Former personal assistant to Sunday Oliseh, Tijani Babangida revealed today that Sunday Oliseh decided to resign after he found out the NFF had already contacted former Ivory Coast coach Havre Renard to replace him. According to Babangida, Sunday Oliseh was incensed that NFF offered to pay Havre Renard $100,000 a month as salary while he was being owed four months salary of N5m.

“We saw this coming. Nothing is hidden. Oliseh was reliably informed that NFF went to talk to Herve Renard to take over the job as Super Eagles coach. This is one of the things that violated the contract he signed when he became coach,” Babangida said.

“He believes his employers are not supporting him to succeed; rather, they are planning for him to fail. Especially, with the crucial game coming up in a month’s time against Egypt for the AFCON qualifier. He feels if he is the problem, why will he be a stumbling block? Hence, his resignation.

"He resigned so that NFF can do what they want to do. With match bonuses owed, salaries not paid, camping allowances too. The house NFF promised him has not even been secured for him. So, where will he stay when he comes to Abuja? Hotel?'' ''So, many violations of his contract. No one can work like that. NFF cannot pay Oliseh N5million but they went promising Renard $100,000. This is sad. Why won’t he not resign?”

Late Elvis Presley's long time Doctor dies at 88

Elvis Presley's longtime doctor -- who stood trial for over-prescribing Presley -- died in Memphis on Wednesday at the age of 88.

Dr. George Nichopoulos was infamously known to Elvis fans as "Dr. Nick" and much like Conrad Murray after Michael Jackson's death -- he came under heavy scrutiny when the king of rock 'n' roll died.

Dr. Nick traveled with Elvis as part of his entourage, but after Presley died in 1977, the doctor faced criminal charges for negligently dishing drugs to Elvis. Unlike Dr Murray, he was acquitted in 1981.

He did eventually lose his medical license for over-prescribing addictive drugs to several patients, including Presley and Jerry Lee Lewis -- but remained adamant all the meds he gave Elvis "were necessities."

President Buhari meets with President of Islamic Development Bank

President Buhari has welcomed the offer by the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) to organize a financing round table in Abuja to mobilize more funds for investment and development of infrastructure in Nigeria.

He made this known during his meeting with the IDB President, Dr Ahmed Mohammed Ali in Saudi Arabia today February 25, 2016.

A statement by Presidential media aide, Shehu Garba, states that Buhari during the meeting, restated his government's determination to revamp and diversify the Nigerian economy rapidly.

"The days of Nigeria as a big oil producer with plenty of money are gone. We need all the support we can get to diversify our economy as quickly as possible. We also need to rehabilitate our infrastructure, develop the domestic capacity to feed ourselves and export the surplus,".

President Buhari welcomed the plan by the IDB to fast track the take-off of the Bilingual Education Program, aimed at integrating the Almajiri system of education with Western education in Nigeria. IDP President, Dr. Ali assured President Buhari that the IDB will work with its traditional partners such as the Saudi Fund, the Kuwait Fund, Arab Bank for Development in Africa and the Abu Dhabi Fund, to increase the quantum of funding available to Nigeria.

The IDB has already provided US$ 98 million for the Bilingual Education Program in Adamawa, Gombe, Kaduna, Kano, Kwara, Nasarawa, Niger, Osun and Yobe. The bank plans to support similar projects in other states of the federation.

Our party has suffered enough for its mistake - Ali Modu Sheriff

Former Borno state governor and new PDP chairman, Ali Modu Sheriff, said that the former ruling party has suffered enough for its mistake and that it is time to re-position it. The new chairman made this known while addressing a delegation from the Arewa Social Media Forum (ASMEFO) who paid him a courtesy visit in Abuja today.

"We have the mandate of the party members and leaders to re-position the party and we will not work with anyone who will create crisis or violence in the party, no matter their positions. The party has suffered enough for its mistakes, and members and indeed Nigerians are looking forward toward a re-positioned PDP.”
