Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah bin
Abdulaziz has died in hospital, according to the country’s TV. Following the announcement
made, his brother, Salman, becomes his successor.
King Abdullah, who was said to be
aged about 91, had been in hospital for several weeks suffering from a lung
infection. The late king was enthroned in 2005 but had suffered frequent bouts
of ill health in recent years.
His successor, the former Crown
Prince Salman, 79, has recently taken on the ailing monarch's responsibilities.
The late king's half brother Moqren
has been named the new crown prince, according to official statement.
