The Eight National Assembly: The Change We Need By Adesina Oluwaseun

The Eight National Assembly: The Change We Need By Adesina Oluwaseun

Today, the National Assembly has inaugurated the elected national assembly members. This is indeed the first time we are having a composition of great minds and intellectual constituting the senate from Sheu Sanni, Dino Melaye, Ben Bruce, Lanre Tejuoso not forgetting Rabiu Kwankwanso and Godswill Akapbio and many other great minds.
Such great minds like Senator Dino Melaye have decided to champion the course for a reduction in the allowance of the Nigeria Legislator.
May I quickly remind this legislator that it's not all about the reduction in their allowances that matters only, its about the legislator carrying their constituency along in the affairs of the state. This is the time for all appointed members to be more accountable to those they represent.
If a federal legislator can facilitate over two hundred (200) jobs for the unemployed youth in its constituency in his four (4) years as legislator into the federal government parastatals, ministries and agencies, invariably as a legislator he/she is building a future for his/her constituency.
This is more worthy than the bore hole they claim to use millions of Naira in digging for the community. By so doing, they are equally helping the government at the centre to evenly create jobs among Nigerian youth and the gradual eradication of unemployment.
I'm looking forward to an assembly where a legislator will boldly speak of his peoples need in its constituency, an assembly were legislators will draw federal presence to their neighborhood through the provision of Standard and qualitative schools for the children, hospital, good roads, electricity, and the creation of employment for the people.
Also, an assembly that will not let their selfish interest and that of their party supersede the interest of those they represent and above all national interest.
Above all, I'm looking forward to see an assembly were National Assembly members will not just be an "Abuja based" legislators immediately they are inaugurated and forget those people they represent till another forth coming election.
I look forward to periodic town hall meeting with its constituency at least once in a quarter, as to generate issue of national concern from its constituency, bills and other meaningful suggestions that can help the government.
To all the National assembly principal officers that emerged today, I congratulate you and wish you best of luck in your discharge of duties to the nation and for us to really experience that kind of change Nigerians have been yearning for over the years, we need a purposeful and viral national assembly. Yes! Our National Assembly can do it right, Yes! Nigerians are waiting for the change and together we can all make Nigeria a great Nation!
God Bless Nigeria
Long live Nigeria National Assembly
